Slack is part of the family of collaborative tools that are widely used in companies. In concrete terms, it is an instant messaging tool that centralizes all the company's communications. Like any good instant messaging tool, you will be able to chat with all your company's employees or create group discussions.
So far, you tell me, nothing revolutionary. But Slack goes further than that, because it has the ability to connect to all applications that are used in the enterprise and therefore centralize 100% of information flows. In theory with Slack you are supposed to completely reduce the use of internal company emails and a lot of external emails. Slack positions itself at the heart of the organization and once it is installed, it's hard to live without it.

This article is unfinished and partially misinforming the public. It is misusing the word "Free", because if it is not "Free Software", meaning software to brings to the user Open source PLUS the Copyleft license, that is not "Free software" then. Usually, some proprietary software that acts more a s the spyware and vendor lock-in solution can be "Free of paying", yet you pay in your privacy, user rights and ability to tailor software to your needs (and leave changed thing for use by others).
So please stop putting meaningless "Free" where there is absolutely no use freedom in those. Alternativeto.net has a LICENSE as on of the main search filters for a reason, and yet you are completely ignoring that crucial information in your article! Try do the same with regard of user's rights and privacy in mind and compare freedom they get with opensource and free software , to proprietary EULAs of un-free "free from paying" software and you would be amazed what you are loosing by selecting non-free "free" ones. And don't be fooled, Copyleft licensed products are commercial and copyleft IS commercial and binaries can be sold, too, just not having secrecy and mistrust in them included in "free". So another misused term here is "Commercial", because every Copyletf and free software (and most open source one) is permitted to use commercially and IS commercial software. So words you are searching is "required to pay" and "not required to pay" or similar. And that obviously is at least of your concerns when searching for a reliable and trusty software with the future, these days...
