Joplin VS CherryTree
Is Joplin a good alternative to CherryTree?Comments about Joplin as an Alternative to CherryTree
TBayAreaPatWasn't impressed w/Joplin first time, but now that I have CherryTree, I reinstalled Joplin to compare. I quickly notice that I can't import webpages like with CherryTree complete html import. Then when I paste an article clipping into Joplin, it doesn't show the imported clickable links like CherryTree and Obsidian do. Uninstalling again.

Zim VS CherryTree
Is Zim a good alternative to CherryTree?Comments about Zim as an Alternative to CherryTree
LordMaxVery similar, simplest and use txt files
4AasSame concept, but stores data in plain text file, so you can browse your notes even without the app. For example on Android with any text editor.
1Sam LanderSimilar.
I prefer Zim because it is clean, can portable, and saves to .txt.
0Lenny SuI use Zim & CherryTree both.
1andgregorikUnlike CherryTree, Zim hates Windows with a passion, and it's no longer supported as of 2019. Also, no dark theme. CT's UI feels snappier, faster. Other than that, Zim & CT are very close.

Microsoft OneNote VS CherryTree
Is Microsoft OneNote a good alternative to CherryTree?Comments about Microsoft OneNote as an Alternative to CherryTree
AzazelSync between devices, snappier interface...
1snshepherdThey both have very similar features, but a different method of presentation (i.e., UI/UX). OneNote uses a notebook tab appearance for its sections, sub-sections, pages, etc., CherryTree uses a simple tree-like structure with branches, nodes, etc., all displayed visually in a pane on the side of the window.
4Cherrytree is OS independent, runs faster and has better view for tree as OneNote.
4RemovedUserOneNote hasn't a good search mechanism. When you search for a term the just show the notes where we can find, not the places on the notes, it highlight but don't offers a way to do that easely. Differently from cherrytree.
1the fact you cant host the notes yourself can be a bummer but apart from that it is a fantastic note-taking software, the UI looks modern and is very smooth

Simplenote VS CherryTree
Is Simplenote a good alternative to CherryTree?Comments about Simplenote as an Alternative to CherryTree
It is not the equal of cherry notes. It is a great note ap for all three. I have been using cherry tree for several years and it is great. I will use the android version when it comes out. I use simple note with cherry notes and I will continue as it is a good lite weight application and easy to use and quick.
2Just as easy to use as Cherry tree and is multi-platform. (no cherry tree on Mac). I have to use Windows (work). I use Mac (home) use Ubuntu for work notes. (my choice).
0Does not have hierarchical note ability
15RemovedUserI can't add images to the notes
1Not the same. No multi-level sub-folder system.

Comments about Obsidian as an Alternative to CherryTree
Very similar format. Obsidian will be better for most people as it has many plugins.
CherryTree is faster and open-source.
I don't see a way to import webpages in Obisidian like I do with CherryTree if you save a webpage as CompleteHtml. I'm still new with it all, but I somehow find CherryTree easier to use and more organized.
CherryTree feels like an ancient WIP beta of Obsidian. I used to be a CT guy for 2 yrs but as of late 2020 I'm an Obsidian convert. It does everything that CT can but with panache and speed. And of course it does a lot more.
You can't use special symbols in Obsidian file names. Meanwhile in CherryTree I can name nodes (document pages) like { ... } | { ... } and even make links to them. I find this great
