With so many tools, it's hard to keep everyone on the same page. Notion is a new tool that unifies them all.
Notion Features
Notion vs Microsoft OneNote opinions
HiKENotion is better for vizualisation and is free, but the huge drawback is the desktop application. It is an embedded browser (Chrome actually), so its RAM and CPU usages are far behind OneNote : around 1% CPU average for Notion, vs OneNote with 0% average ; 300Mb RAM usage, vs 60Mb for OneNote. This impacts directly user experience and battery life, and also loading times. OneNote is loading quasi instantly, and Notion is taking 5s to load.
0raphaelaguiarBetter visualization and flexible organization. Keeps your information in a multi-hierarchical wiki, not in notes,
3Biggest feature of Onenote is drawing & typing everywhere, which Notion doesn't support. Notion is good to store highly structured data, while Onenote is more like a digital paper.
7rongmuNotion is aesthetic, powerful and highly flexible. You can mix different types of contents within one page. Markdown formatting for texts. Sub-pages for wiki-like or hierarchical organization. Databases for a of lot data; a database comes with multiple possible views and you can choose the one that best suits your data.

Standard Notes is a simple and private notes app. It allows you to write and sync your notes across all your devices, iOS, Android, Linux, Windows, MacOS, and web browser.
Standard Notes Features
Standard Notes vs Microsoft OneNote opinions
Encrypted, very lightweight and not owned by Microsoft.
0Extremely feature-light. Does only the bare minimum to be considered a notes app, whereas OneNote does much more.
6k71Good for those options to store online or sync between devices. Devices: Windows app, web-browser, android app...
I prefer this one than SimpleNote, in any case, to share between devices nowadays i recommend telegram or protectedtext. For text, Onenote. I didnt like turtl, joplin or elephant.
0AnipeVery, VERY BASIC, its open source and free but its basic and the features it offers are paid compared to one note's free model
2Don't have sections or pages, just notes.

Evernote is a cross-platform, freemium app designed for note taking, organizing, and archiving.
Evernote Features
Evernote vs Microsoft OneNote opinions
Easy to use, and easy to search.
-1aquanovus8Evernote is clunky, overwhelming, and slow. It has a lot of cool features that used to be relatively unique, but it's grown stagnant. Also the mobile version is pretty buggy.
6It is far and away lacking many features of onenote, most noticeably the ability to have sections and subsections of notes in binders. Making it not good for keeping ORGANIZED notes.
59k71I dont use it for writing text (much better OneNote), i just use it for saving webpages or text from webpages. I think it´s quite slow, and somehow i dont like that much. Also, I dont trust neither expect any privacy with Microsoft, but it´s the best option i have to store the webpages.
0frankzhangEvernote's handwriting is seriously lacking. Especially on the android platform.

Made by the company behind WordPress, Simplenote enables users to take notes, lists, and ideas. These notes are stored on the cloud and are accessible across multiple devices.
Simplenote Features
Simplenote vs Microsoft OneNote opinions
It doesnt feature writing with a pen on screen. (Wacom etc.)
32It is more akin to Apple's iNotes, albeit a little less feature rich (No sketches, folders, etc.). In terms of functionality, Simplenote and iNotes is not a viable alternative to OneNote.
1Simplenote is more similar to Notepad than Onenote. It's basically a plain text editor that lets you store your notes online. Some of the very basic features of OneNote can be approximated, such as inclusion of images, links and text formatting, but it requires learning markdown, which is extremely cumbersome to use and time consuming to learn. Simplenote has only rudimentary organization and search features. Better than Notepad. Not even close to Outlook.
-2No support for web clippings. No separation of Notebooks. Really not like OneNote at all
3Not even the same category

Xournal++ (a fork of Xournal) is a handwriting Notetaking software with PDF annotation support. Written in C++ with platform independent GTK, supporting Linux, e.g. Ubuntu, Debian, Arch, Suse, macOS and Windows 10. Supports Pen input like Wacom Tablets.
Xournal++ Features
Xournal++ vs Microsoft OneNote opinions
violoncelloWith Xournal++ you own your notes and can save them wherever you want - you are not forced to store them somewhere in the cloud as it's the case with OneNote
2Nearly similar interface. Lightweight, open source with latex support and voice notes. Flexible layout which was missing in xournal.
1In the version available for Chromebooks, the option for typed text is not working.
0BachoSevenCross-platform and well supporting stylus pens, Xournalpp implements most if not all funcionalities of OneNote, including recording audio alongside pen strokes. Plus, it's free and open source!
0komp12321It is full open source, Supports handwriting (stylus) Allows to create annotations on PDF-s (OneNote doesn't)

Google Keep has several features including color coding notes, inserting images, creating lists, geo-fencing, shareable notes, and search by color.
Google Keep Features
Google Keep vs Microsoft OneNote opinions
I love Keep, but it's not anywhere near as detailed as OneNote. Keep is basically for making sticky notes, which is helpful, but OneNote has way more features. I know a lot of students, as well as myself, who use OneNote for taking school notes. You can draw, add tags to notes, and add formattings, such as fonts, colors, bullets, and number lists. You can even draw on top of things you type. You can't any of that in Google Keep.
50Far more basic than OneNote and not a comparable alternative
0Keep is like sticky notes which is completely different from Onenote
1It's too lightweight and lacks many features compared to OneNote.
1Keep is a sticker board while OneNote is a full notebook.
