It is probably the closest alternative to Adobe Photoshop, at least from those I know. For me personally too complicated but if you know how to use it, you can do many things you can do with Photoshop too. What I also noticed is that it loads very quickly on Linux.

Jatie Free, rich of feature, good performance, many tutorial, anything it's lack can be cover with plug-in. The best for free software.

If you area already familiar with Photoshop, GIMP is almost completely alien, even though it can do pretty much anything Photoshop can. It just does things very differently. On the other hand, if this is the first professional editor you use, I think the learning curve is as steep or as lean as Photoshop.

i like gimp because it is easy compared to photoshop , if you see the tutorials in youtube , you can make your thumbnails very easily .

RemovedUser Affinity Photo is a professional level photo editing application. It's very powerful and you can do 99% of things in it that you can do in Photoshop. It can read and write .PSD files, and is compatible (most of the time) with Photoshop brushes and plugins. If you don't mind paying, I'd recommend it. It's ~$50 one time, so no subscriptions.

Blouko I believe, now that it supports Windows, that it's a great alternative to Photoshop. There's a wide variety of features you can find both on Photoshop and Photo, they share most of the key features. Affinity's design is beautiful aswell.

gaengschter I was working with PS since v1.3! Since they started the Creative Cloud versions, they deliver no more quality, so I was looking for a alternative to PS, like Paint.net is. I compared MyPaint, Pixlr, GIMP, Krita and some more, but Krita was the best for me. Easy to switch from PS, no unstable App, can read PS files, and supports privacy by default (a big problem with PS and Pixlr).

Was born as a sketching app, now it includes all the Gimp features. Plus new features recently introduced (for example Smart clone, that acts as the content aware brush in Photoshop). In my opinion it is much faster and useful than Gimp. Can be a valid Phototshop replacement.

Paint.net as an alternative to PHOTOSHOP?! Er, no. It has bare minimums of editing elements, doesn't support objects, and is missing tons of features. It is a slightly more advanced Paint.
Top negative comment  almost 2 years ago

      its free and feature loaded.
      Positive comment 11 months ago

Simple in design, yet comprehensive in features.
      Positive comment 11 months ago

Not a direct replacement, but if you don't need all the advanced features of Photoshop and going to do just quick editing, this could be a solution.
      Positive comment 12 months ago

It is a fantastic software. It is very versatile. Easy to learn. I have Paint.net and Photoshop on my PC and I use Paint.net much more often (as I do a lot of small edits). Don't get me wrong, Photoshop is superior. But it's also slower. And most edits can be done with the same results in both software programs. Only for Windows unfortunately. And it's free!

SethAlexander Can locally store and load PS Actions, Styles, gradients, etc. Opens and saves as PSD as well as all other image formats one might expect from Adobe Photoshop. Photopea is easily the best alternative to Photoshop.

The fact that Pixlr is browser based is cool at places like school where you can't just install GIMP.

      pros, cons and recent comments
davecortright For the simple editing I do to get photos ready for email and web, Pixelmator is perfect. It can crop (including constrained cropping), resize, and do all the essential color/brightness/contrast/levels tweaks. And the best feature of all, it has a magical healing brush for removing blemishes.

Very intuitive UI for Effects. Impressed with how to apply them on an image, and how to turn a plain image to a professional edited image!
Positive comment about 1 year ago

tiltedtripod_ Considering Photoshop is a ripoff with the subscription crap and Elements is totally unsupported by Adobe and it's a piece of crap, Pixelmator offers a clean interface, powerful tools and it actually works. #adobesucks

A good price/quality. I also use GIMP, but it is cumbersome. I think that Corel should invest in porting it to Linux.
