Adobe Photoshop Alternatives

Adobe Photoshop is described as 'is the commercial image editor that set the standard in creative illustration and design work with a sophisticated, layer-based workflow and robust, professional feature set' and is a leading Image Editor in the Photos & Graphics category. There are more than 100 alternatives to Adobe Photoshop for a variety of platforms, including Windows, Mac, Online / Web-based, iPhone and iPad. The best alternative is GIMP, which is both free and Open Source. Other great apps like Adobe Photoshop are Affinity Photo (Paid), Krita (Free, Open Source), Paint.NET (Free Personal) and Photopea (Free).

    1. GIMP is a free program for such photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. Essentially it's the closest thing to Photoshop you can get for free.

It is probably the closest alternative to Adobe Photoshop, at least from those I know. For me personally too complicated but if you know how to use it, you can do many things you can do with Photoshop too. What I also noticed is that it loads very quickly on Linux.

If you area already familiar with Photoshop, GIMP is almost completely alien, even though it can do pretty much anything Photoshop can. It just does things very differently. On the other hand, if this is the first professional editor you use, I think the learning curve is as steep or as lean as Photoshop.

ioma8 GIMP is sadly not good alternative to Photoshop. Have very bad support of PSD files, you literally can't work with regular PSD from others who use Photoshop as GIMP doesn't support many of Photoshops features. One of them being adjustments layers. Basically you have to make all changes in GIMP being destructive.

I love gimp for what you get for free.. But best paid alternative without the subscription based software or stripped down PS Elements. Affinity Photo is a sweet deal, and great alternative to Photoshop. I only see this getting better with time and now it's on Windows. Pen support (default settings) could be better but doable.

TopSock It's not as full-featured as Photoshop, but it does a lot of things that PS can do. If you don't need every single feature of PS or can't afford the monthly subscription, it's a very good alternative.

Atoshi It's kinda more intuitive to use than GIMP (which is a briliant PS alternative too) interface-wise, and supports CMYK out of the box if one needs it. As of version 3.1 it has pretty advanced support for animation, including opacity curves (GIMP fails completely in that field, animathing anything is a major PITA in it)

davecortright For the simple editing I do to get photos ready for email and web, Pixelmator is perfect. It can crop (including constrained cropping), resize, and do all the essential color/brightness/contrast/levels tweaks. And the best feature of all, it has a magical healing brush for removing blemishes.
