Adobe Photoshop Alternatives

Adobe Photoshop is described as 'is the commercial image editor that set the standard in creative illustration and design work with a sophisticated, layer-based workflow and robust, professional feature set' and is one of the leading apps in the Photos & Graphics category. There are more than 100 alternatives to Adobe Photoshop for a variety of platforms, including Windows, Mac, Online / Web-based, iPhone and iPad. The best alternative is GIMP, which is both free and Open Source. Other great apps like Adobe Photoshop are Affinity Photo (Paid), Krita (Free, Open Source), Paint.NET (Free Personal) and Photopea (Free).

It is probably the closest alternative to Adobe Photoshop, at least from those I know. For me personally too complicated but if you know how to use it, you can do many things you can do with Photoshop too. What I also noticed is that it loads very quickly on Linux.

Definitely the best open source alternative. In most cases you can do everything you would in Photoshop, I'd say for a vast majority of users it's more than enough. And as someone noted it boots extremely quick on Linux.

If you area already familiar with Photoshop, GIMP is almost completely alien, even though it can do pretty much anything Photoshop can. It just does things very differently. On the other hand, if this is the first professional editor you use, I think the learning curve is as steep or as lean as Photoshop.

UltraProgrammer If you're used to Photoshop, GIMP will feel very unusual, since it has very different ways of doing things. That being said, its more than capable of keeping up with Photoshop on a technical level, and well exceeds Photoshop's abilities (if at the cost of intuitiveness) in my opinion

dabockster GIMP is not intuitive at all. The interface is hot garbage compared to Photoshop and even Paint.NET. It also messes up on several functions such as selection and outline tools. You get what you pay for.

RemovedUser Affinity Photo is a professional level photo editing application. It's very powerful and you can do 99% of things in it that you can do in Photoshop. It can read and write .PSD files, and is compatible (most of the time) with Photoshop brushes and plugins. If you don't mind paying, I'd recommend it. It's ~$50 one time, so no subscriptions.

Blouko I believe, now that it supports Windows, that it's a great alternative to Photoshop. There's a wide variety of features you can find both on Photoshop and Photo, they share most of the key features. Affinity's design is beautiful aswell.

gaengschter I was working with PS since v1.3! Since they started the Creative Cloud versions, they deliver no more quality, so I was looking for a alternative to PS, like Paint.net is. I compared MyPaint, Pixlr, GIMP, Krita and some more, but Krita was the best for me. Easy to switch from PS, no unstable App, can read PS files, and supports privacy by default (a big problem with PS and Pixlr).

Was born as a sketching app, now it includes all the Gimp features. Plus new features recently introduced (for example Smart clone, that acts as the content aware brush in Photoshop). In my opinion it is much faster and useful than Gimp. Can be a valid Phototshop replacement.

It is a fantastic software. It is very versatile. Easy to learn. I have Paint.net and Photoshop on my PC and I use Paint.net much more often (as I do a lot of small edits). Don't get me wrong, Photoshop is superior. But it's also slower. And most edits can be done with the same results in both software programs. Only for Windows unfortunately. And it's free!
