    • Whereas Paint.NET is a very simple and user friendly program that's easy to use, GIMP is incredibly unforgiving, difficult to learn/use and lacking the welcoming and uncomplicated interface of Paint.NET. Moreover it has functions that just completely stop working for no reason Guest • Dec 2016 • 26 agrees and 3 disagrees Disagree   Agree
    • GIMP is full of features that aren't needed by 99% of people and very complicated. Guest • Jan 2017 • 24 agrees and 1 disagrees Disagree   Agree
    • Paint.net is a very easy to use program for basic editing of images, while Gimp is a very complicated tool for doing lots of complex stuff with images so kind of very different target groups I would say Guest • May 2017 • 13 agrees and 0 disagrees Disagree   Agree
    • GIMP is really complicated and not a real alternative. It has way more than nedeed for most of the users. Paint.NET is really simple to use and has just enough functionality to be useful for an advanced (but not professional) user. Guest • Jul 2017 • 1 agrees and 0 disagrees Disagree   Agree
    • GIMP is a superb cross-platform (Win, Mac, Linux) alternative to Paint.NET because it's open source and has a huge range of functionality. It is less suited for those situations where you're seeking a very simple image editor, without fuss. But it's still cross-platform, which Paint.NET isn't. So it depends what "alternative" means to you. JohnFastmanJan 2017 • 2 agrees and 8 disagrees Disagree   Agree

    • Very pricy advanced application compared to free paint.net Guest • Jan 2016 • 12 agrees and 0 disagrees Disagree   Agree
    • Actually, Paint.NET is supposed to be a free alternative to Adobe Photoshop. While Paint.NET is very powerful, Adobe Photoshop is the superior when it comes to editing. If you want nice free results, Paint.NET is your best bet. If you want amazing results and the best tools and are not afraid to drop in some money, Adobe Photoshop is a very great choice. • Krita is also very similar to photoshop, and if you find the features easily enough and do enough research it has ALOT more features than paint.net while having the easy navigation that paint.net has. Also it's free! Guest • Dec 2016 • 1 agrees and 1 disagrees Disagree   Agree

    • MyPaint looks a lot like Photoshop. Paint.net is so popular because of the simplicity. PhotoShop is a beautiful program with a lot of options. Paint.net is a simple "paint" program that allows you to go as you like, but keep it simple at the beginning. MyPaint is like a photoshop lite. Guest • May 2017 Disagree   Agree

It's Not fair that you need a pc to download this you should make paint.net AVAIBLE for the people who has macbook air and pro.

In an ideal world, good app developers would recognize that people use Windows, Mac and Linux. Paint.NET shouldn't just be Window-based, but work for Mac and Linux users too. Ideally, it should be open source. If you're a frustrated Mac user, try Krita or MyPaint.

My friend said using Paint.net in Windows 7 Professional isn't that good, since it keeps lagging & her wacom bamboo tablet pen pressure doesn't work properly. But I can't be too sure cuz she's telling me this online.

If I want to select and to move a text object and change the font size in pictures I have best experience with PhotoScape. Beside many other very useful features you can perfectly select, move and manipulate text objects. The manipulation of text fields including of framing of text fields is a problem for many other free photo-editing software products as Paint.net, Pixlr, Adobe Photoshop Express, GimpShop or IrfanView. My recommendation for this purpose and especially for the professional framing of large series of pictures: http://alternativeto.net/desktop/photoscape/
