Greenshot VS Snagit
Is Greenshot a good alternative to Snagit?Comments about Greenshot as an Alternative to Snagit
The OCR functionality is very useful and the annotation and markup tools are plentiful and easy to use; very small learning curve for a powerful tool.
4Controls Print Screen button, includes editor to annotate image
2Doesn't come near the ease and functionalities of what Snagit has. On the plus side, it is free.
-1Greenshot does not even come near Snagit. Very low usability. NOT intuive and the tools are on such a low level-I can`t even describe.
-5Opensource and has all the features that SnagIt have

Is Flameshot a good alternative to Snagit?Comments about Flameshot as an Alternative to Snagit
bartonskiIf you're looking to make "8x10 glossy photograph with the circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each", it can't be beat. Lightweight, does its job, gets out of the way quick.

Shutter VS Snagit
Is Shutter a good alternative to Snagit?Comments about Shutter as an Alternative to Snagit
pablobianchiAt least on Linux is, stable, on official repos of main distros and with a lot of useful features... and is indeed currently active!
1Works perfectly. It just takes a moment to open.
1With SnagIt you can remove sections from anywhere in the image, close the orphaned parts together to remake the whole, strip out, reduce top, sides, bottom to make a new size, all in the one session. With shutter all you have is crop!
8r0npumaSnagIt is the best. Unfortunately only works with windows and osx. Shutter has the x11 limitation which is unfortunate as I use Wayland. Also I have to use a screenshot tool with anotations and markup mulitple times a day. Shutter unfortunately doesn't come close. Devs please add wayland support and also checkup snaggit for implementation ideas.

Snipping Tool VS Snagit
Is Snipping Tool a good alternative to Snagit?Comments about Snipping Tool as an Alternative to Snagit
AnonComes with Windows 10, easy to use, free
2Missing all the abilities of Snagit.
4Current version does not allow selection by window, and doesn't include editing in the package
0can't write! Can't trim screenshots, 'capture new' is destructive of the existing, no shapes like lines or circles to highlight text... list goes on. Skanky.
1No scrolling capture, not enough editing or output choices. Fine for simple capturing, but not bigger jobs

Comments about ShareX as an Alternative to Snagit
Have been running both ShareX and Snagit on separate PC's for over a year. Both are good although Snagit can delete your captures if not careful. Will probably drop Snagit for ShareX on all machines.
Just tested it out and it works great.
Unable to record video with sound.
Don't like to pay?? Try ShareX
Operates from the System tray. Simple start and stop. Great video quality. Easy Trim function. Slower Trim Save As than Snagit.
