Evernote Alternatives for Google Chrome

Evernote is not available for Google Chrome but there are plenty of alternatives with similar functionality. The best Google Chrome alternative is Joplin. It's not free, so if you're looking for a free alternative, you could try Google Keep or Turtl. If that doesn't suit you, our users have ranked more than 100 alternatives to Evernote and many of them are available for Google Chrome so hopefully you can find a suitable replacement. Other interesting Google Chrome alternatives to Evernote are Nimbus Note, Trilium Notes, Cryptee and RemNote.

Joplin is an open source note-taking alternative to Evernote that is also available on most mainstream platforms. Unlike Evernote, Joplin is an offline first and client-side encrypted app. On top of no upload limit, it can also import notes from Evernote and other note-taking services. These advantages and this support for migration makes Joplin an easy recommendation.

It's not WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) as Evernote. You need to learn Markdown.

Joplin is a quite okay alternative to Evernote, but it has its issues. 1) the mobile sync doesn't work in the background, so it doesn't work sufficiently. Issue on Android and iOS. It only syncs if you watch it. No background-sync (!!). 2) It's not WYSIWYG and you can't do several common things you can do with Evernote or Nimbus. Joplin has to improve in sync and user-friendlyness. Then it can really compete. But: it has the best Evernote import feature on the market. This worked flawlessly!

Google Keep brings the power of Google Docs to note-taking, and features what is basically a post-it note interface with the rich content support found in its more formal document processing cousin. Being web based allows for perfect synchronization across devices, though it is not end-to-end encrypted.

Very good note searching. Good integration between desktop and mobile. Use google docs for rich formatting and large texts.

Google Keep is more like a sticky note where as Evernote is a digital filing system where everything is better organized.

  3. Turtl is open source and encrypted end-to-end, so it's desirable as an Evernote alternative from a privacy standpoint. However, its development has ceased since 2019. It also lacks some of the more intricate features of Evernote and some of its highest rated alternatives, such as the ability to import notes from other programs.

    Turtl vs Evernote opinions
Most users think Turtl is a great alternative to Evernote.

Turtl stores your info encrypted, unlike Evernote. Much more private.

Client-side AES encryption (private), open-source and free syncing. Markdown support, attachments, bookmarks, browser plugins and apps for Win, OsX, Linux and Android. Best used for simple notes, but it's infinitely better than, say Simplenote and much more private than Evernote.

Turtl has a great potential to be a full alternative to evernote in the future. But that will take time, still waiting for import feature from other services like evernote, simplenote etc.

Turtl is presently more of a bookmark sync utility than Evernote replacement. (For an open source Evernote replacement see TagSpaces). Unlike Evernote, Turtl is open source and use end-to-end encryption so that you can store simple notes and online bookmarks with full privacy, even from the Turtl developers. A browser plugin works together with the client to capture links. It's still being developed but already a good choice for cross-platform bookmark/note syncing.

Nimbus Note features an interface that is incredibly similar to Evernote's, but it has a few limitations in comparison. For one, it's not available for Linux or as a Firefox browser plugin. It also has a 100 MB limit for synced data and is not updated as frequently due to the development team's smaller size. Like Evernote, it does not encrypt data, so for those looking for a more private alternative, this likely isn't for you.

this is the closest program I have found that is a direct replacement for Evernote in both function and "feel". Support staff is excellent. There is even an Evernote Importer built in!

No Linux, no Mac client, no Firefox plugin. Your data rests unencrypted on US-based data centers in readable format. So all the privacy concerns of Evernote minus some of the convenience.

Nimbus has the potential to seriously challenge Evernote. I found it intuitive, easy to use with a beautiful and neat interface. Better than OneNote esp since it offers tagging.

Nimbus Note is for PC users, very simillar to Evernote. It is possible to import all information at once. If you are fine with 100 MB synced data it is free for any number of devices. It has very good online web interface, Windows app is nice, work offline but has some bugs in text editor (formatting) and has no updates for a long period. I cannot recommend Windows Metro App, it is unusable. For users, who prefer MS or Google and want to use images in their notes, is it possible way.
