Once again, Google does what it wants

First, Google forces all of us to have a G+ account if you have an account on Gmail, and then, they just decide to abandon it after it fails to take off and be Facebook's legitimate competition? Why not abolish it completely, instead of killing it halfway? Don't get me wrong, I actually like the format of Google+ in terms of news and information, much more orderly and quite frankly more interesting than Facebook. The social side of it not so much, but I don't like that reviews are now removed from Google searches, and getting to a Google+ page whilst not logged into your Google+ account can be a hassle.

How to install Google+ on an iPod Touch

Google recently released a Google+ app for the iPhone, but it doesn't work on the iPod Touch! Nuuuuuu!

Luckily, there's an easy workaround to this, if your iPod Touch is jailbroken. Just download and install Google+ from Installous instead of the App Store. And don't pretend to me that you don't use Installous.

EDIT: This workaround is no longer necessary; Google+ now supports the iPod Touch.

What about other functions?

Comment by Cypeq
about Google Plus and Hangouts · Jul 2011 · Helpful Not helpful

I would be happy if google would decrease hegemony of FB,** but **in my opinion it will need some other functions such as instant messaging (I know there is GTalk, but it should be integrated in some way into G+), normal messaging (there is simple option to write email, but to read it you have to open your gmail, missing option of messaging among more people which is useful in arranging meetings etc.) Missing apps - it is always good way how to make anything more interesting - customizing - changing background, which is currently a bit boring, empty... etc

Is Google going to add any of functions mentioned above?

Cheers,

C.

They have implemented Chat, but you have to enable it.. I agree that there is lacking some kind of simple/private messaging, but I guess they expect us to just use the Chat-function for that.. (they will receive the message when they are online next time, and you chat with multiple people) The messaging feature "Huddle" for their Android apps seems much nicer I must say - I hope they implement "Huddle" in the online version as well. I guess that apps are a matter of time, but they don't seem to have a public API yet..

I think they will implement lots of features and soon as they know that people actually like Google+. I think it's a good strategy to start with the basics, get people to like it and then add features.

Hmm... Good strategy indeed, but I think they already are developing on it like crazy already because, Google cannot afford it to fail! (this has probably been said about many services before though.. haha) Google+ is, in my mind, going to be the service that glues all google's services together: Recommendations based on connections to your friends can be used in Search, YouTube, New, Calendar Events, Maps, Latitude, Books, (put in 15 other services here yourself)..!

Yepp. I also heard that ALL employes on Google is under some kind of bonus program that is directly tied to how well they are doing in social. Google can't just rely on search + ads for to long.

You have always been able to direct message someone, even when it was back in closed beta.
just remove the circles in the share with box, and type a name. only that person will be able to see it and reply. and they are notified about it also.

If anybody needs any invite to Google+, you can request one by sending a private message to either me or Thelle. Be sure to include your email address in the message.

Help us populate the barren wasteland currently known as Google+!

And add me if you want to!

Google reinvents social network this time, after Wave and Buzz failure
What do you think? :D

I kind of like it. It's sort of a mix between Facebook and Twitter and that is kind of positive. Although i find it a bit messy in the news feed but i guess i just have to clean up a bit among the people i follow.

But anyway. +1 :)

Haha, love it :D

Google+ is kind of nice. Hopefully it can get some attention in the long run.

I would like to try it out, IF SOMEBODY WOULD JUST INVITE ME. D:<

Hehe, i can maybe help you. But i think they blocked invites for the moment. Think it will be kind of easy to get in pretty soon.

I would also love if somebody would invite me!! @Ola, hint, hint.. :)

Like Facebook with a new experience :D easy to use & interesting I think.

Awesome I finally got a Google+ invite (by asking a random person on the internet). Too bad nobody else that I know uses it yet.

Yeah, Google seemed to have cut all restrictions on invites.. I also on board now :) BTW, If anyone needs an invite just post here or send a private message..

They still insist on making your profile public and making all your posts public by default. Pretty annoying.

Funny, I just hit the little x on "public" and then select only the circles I want to share to, and it remembers for every post after that.
