It's a great alternative to most social networks and YouTube too !!
At this point I'm starting to think a true free speech website wouldn't need to advertise as such, because every "free-speech" platform seem to abandon that when they realize they can get away with it. Minds is no different. Like Gab, but even before Gab, this website censors art that they don't like, making it no different from Twitter or Facebook aside from the group they are targeting: Conservatives.
That said if you are a conservative, you will feel at home, assuming you don't care about true free-speech so long as it accepts your speech. If you're as "free-speech absolutist" as the likes of Count Dankula or Sargon, then you will fit in on this site. However if you believe in true free-speech (as defined by the US constitution not just English interpretation of it) then you may not like this website.
have you found any place that is truly free-speech where people mix contrarian ideas?

Minds and Gabs both allow free speech based on the US Constitution. And I'm not just talking about how they are private companies as so the 1st Amendment doesn't really apply to them.
Free speech is not anarchy. Even the government can push ideas they like over others (that's how politics works). Even states and cities can ban certain forms of expression, such as pornography close to schools or where children are.

Open-source. Free speech for the most part; the content policy on appeals are moderated by a randomly selected jury system based on the Santa Clara Principles. Minds is federated with ActivityPub. Users can opt-in enable NIP-26 Delegated Event Signing to Nostr. UPDATE: Minus one star because the Minds Nostr relay is not reliable and NIP-26 has not been functional since 2023. Removing a second star because their primary focus now is to sell turnkey social media apps for communities.
Constantly improving, and they seem to care about free speech. We will see how it goes, the main limiting factor is a small user base still. It's a good place to find memes.
Edit: Mid 2024, after using it I see it's mostly a dead site. Very little activity.
Minds is awful, there's very little content. When I created my account it gave a survey, one of the questions was whether or not I wanted to see political posts - I said no. When I got to my newsfeed the first page of posts were from Minds and all political bullsh!t! If you're into political crap it might be for you, but if you want decent content go somewhere else.
I used Minds without subscription, in the last weeks has changed reward system, many users are disappointed; might be still relatively free to post, some limitations about exposure and reward, many trolls now.
A true alternative would have groups. This one does not have groups. Or a way to make a group. Disappointing.
