I have a low-end computer and I love free software, this is the list of software I use on my laptop.
Explore diverse software alternatives using a crowdsourced discovery service featuring apps for Windows, Mac, Linux, and mobile, with personalized lists.
Seems obvious, but I use it ALL THE TIME to look after applications, check if they are open-source, their core functionalities, reviews, alternatives, comments, etc. I also like to discover new apps this way!
Violentmonkey provides userscript support for Chrome, Opera, Maxthon and Firefox supporting most scripts for
Greasemonkey and
Tampermonkey.
It's a userscript manager, It's easier and less power-consuming than using extensions, you can customize the code of all scripts, create new ones, etc. If you don't already know about it, go check out userscripts, they are really nice to use!
HTTPS Everywhere is a browser extension produced as a collaboration between The Tor Project and the Electronic Frontier Foundation. It encrypts your communications with a number of major websites.
Another security extension.
This eye-care extension enables night mode creating dark themes for websites on the fly. Dark Reader inverts bright colors making them high contrast and easy to read at night.
I want to keep my eyes so I use this extension to have a dark theme everywhere.
uBlock Origin (uBO) is a CPU and memory-efficient wide-spectrum content blocker. It blocks ads, trackers, coin miners, popups, annoying anti-blockers, malware sites, etc., by default using EasyList, EasyPrivacy, Peter Lowe's Blocklist, Online Malicious URL Blocklist, and uBO...
Probably the best ad-blocker you can find. I love this one, you can also block things a more advanced way as well and the app is really customizable. While being very easy to use when you don't care about customizing stuff.
Free, extensible code editor with Git integration, AI-driven IntelliCode, and 30,000+ extensions, supporting various languages like Python, Java.
Even if it's maybe not written on alternativeto, the app is open-source as well! Very good app. I was using Atom before but Atom is way more power consuming than this app.
OpenSCAD is a software for creating solid 3D CAD objects. It is free software and available for Linux/UNIX, MS Windows and MacOS.
I was using Freecad before but I prefer this software anyway.
Free and open-source office suite with advanced word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, vector graphics, math formula editor, and database tools.
Intuitive multi-track video editor with robust hardware-accelerated support; offers chroma key, color grading, and extensive audio/video format compatibility.
One of the best video editing software I ever used.
Comprehensive software providing screen recording and live streaming on Mac, Windows, and Linux with powerful encoding support and unlimited scenes.
A simple video recorder.
This is how I write my courses and ideas.
Cura aims to be a end solution for personal 3D printing with RepRap based machines. It is tuned toward the Ultimaker, but can be used on any RepRap based design.
This is the app I use to print 3D models
I tried multiple distros before but this one is the best visually and for my hardware.
Tilix is a tiling terminal emulator which uses the VTE GTK+ 3 widget with the following features:
Good terminal, I like the splits of the terminal so much.
Cross-platform email client providing POP/IMAP support, robust filtering, multiple accounts, and chat. Extendable via add-ons with RSS/Atom, etc.
My email manager.
A versatile platform for text and voice communication, featuring topic-specific channels, customizable moderation, and smooth low latency interactions.
One of the only closed-source I use.
ghostwriter is a feature-rich text editor using Markdown syntax which makes it suitable for note-taking, document redaction, simple HTML website creation and much more.
I like the minimalist style of ghostwriter, I use Ghostwriter like I would use Libreoffice Writer or MS Word.
Open-source browser with Gecko engine, supporting HTML add-ons and providing privacy features like Enhanced Tracking Protection and third-party cookie blocking.
I use this web browser because I cannot handle apps that are based on Chromium on my computer and because Firefox is simply amazing.
No comments so far, maybe you want to be first?
