Not sure, but may be abandonware.

Hasn't been updated since 2016 (unstable), and last stable version was 2014.

I think Freeplane is a much more up-to-date fork.

Really like this software for mindmap purposes. For some it's a bit hard to get along. I like it though.

Recently updated from version 0.8 to 0.9, and received a java error when trying to open earlier files.

The problem was solved for version 1.0 , which is currently beta.

I have been using freemind for a couple of years and its very good, looking into other opensource alternatives now just to see if there is anything else better out there which keeps competition going ! :)

If only programs like this freed themselves of the need to have a central/master/anchor concept.
It's much easier if you can have the CHOICE of having a number of central Compendim or cmap tools.

I think Freeplane (a fork of FreeMind) has implemented this feature -- try it out and let the developers know if it serves your purpose. The community seems more active and user focused, so you should get a response.

I love freemind. I just wish there was more active development going on with the project.

Check out Freeplane -- it's a fork of the FreeMind project on source forge ;)

+1 check freeplane and decide for yourself

Also give Mindomo a try.
