Comments and Reviews
My personal preference for markdown writing programs for Linux. Used version 1.7.4 (latest at time of review), with Linux Mint 18.2.
Pros:
Cons:
Other notes:
Overall, a very useful program indeed. Most of the ways I personally find it lacking are features I grew accustomed to in another (Windows-only) program, which are more QOL-oriented than outright failures to include integral parts of the experience.
I have not used ghostwriter on Windows, so I have no experience with how it would differ from Linux (if at all), but if my experiences with it on Linux are anything to go by it's definitely worth a try. I would wholeheartedly recommend this program for Linux users.

The 'Hemingway Mode' feature ensures that you can't erase anything with backspace or delete. That was exactly what I was looking for.
The feature that automatically adds closing brackets and quotation marks is implemented better than some other apps and can be turned off.
I'm awaiting the upcoming release that will add some missing keyboard shortcuts. The fullscreen mode isn't functioning with the Flatpak version on Ubuntu. And it's not possible to customize keyboard shortcuts.
Good to use when dynamic setting showing character, word, and sentence(line) count are needed..the only editor I've found so far that does sentence(line) count. If word counts aren't needed, the MarkText editor seems a better choice. GhostWriter's pulldown menu markdown correctives aren't as easy to use as MarkText's barmode choices. GhostWriter's Darkmode toggles w/Moon icon at bottom of screen. Does not automatically paste images like a rich-text editor, though images can be inserted. Does spellcheck,autosave,backup,open-to-last,remember recent, font choice.
The download link no longer works. Here's another: https://launchpad.net/~wereturtle/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+packages
One of the few apps in this space that isn't Electron/Atom/etc. based. It's written primarily in C++.
UI is quite elegant, but "no excuses. no disctractions" is not honest.
You have at least one distraction: markdown syntax marks are always visible. You can have a "clean" html preview in a separate window, but a second window is a huge distraction by itself. I wish they could implement really seamless editing, like MarkText or Typora. In that case, ghostwirter would be clear a favorite for me.
I use Ghostwriter for writing articles, blog posts, and memoranda. It is a terrific markdown application for writers with a pleasant UI.
