First release was from end of september 2025 I don't see how this Mac utility can have 23k stars without suspicious activity

I'm Tw93, the author. Fair question. The star history is public here, you can see the curve over time rather than a sudden jump overnight: https://www.star-history.com/?repos=tw93%2Fmole&type=date&legend=top-left

A few notes that may help:

  • Mole started as a free open-source Mac CLI. The Mac app came later. Most stars are on the CLI repo
  • Growth was gradual across releases, HN / community shares, and a lot of word of mouth, not one spike
  • BleachBit is a great project, but it's a different audience and platform mix, so the star counts aren't really one-to-one

What is Mole?

Mole is a cleanup and maintenance toolkit for macOS and Windows. Every part shares the same safety idea: show you what will be removed before anything is deleted.

The Mole CLI is free and open source (GPL-3.0). It cleans caches and leftovers, uninstalls apps with related files, explores disk usage, runs maintenance tasks, and shows live CPU, memory, disk, and network stats in the terminal. Dry-run and whitelist options help you stay in control. Install it with brew install mole on macOS, or scoop install mole for the Windows edition.

Mole for Mac is the native GUI ($19 one-time for 2 Macs, lifetime updates, 14-day refund). It covers Clean, Software (updates and uninstall leftovers), Optimize, Analyze, and Status, plus a menu bar. Scanning is free; you review the list before acting. Local-only, no subscription, not on the Mac App Store.

Mole for Windows is a separate native app for Windows 10 22H2 and Windows 11, x64 and Arm64 ($19 one-time for 2 PCs, its own license, 14-day refund). It cleans caches, uninstalls apps and their leftovers, updates apps through winget, manages startup items, runs safe maintenance, maps disk usage, and shows live status from a tray panel. A Mac license does not activate it.
