AIMP vs foobar2000 opinions
Fast and continuous playing. Option to edit meta data.
It is a very good audio player with a pristine sound quality
mrdaltroIt's not as customizable as foobar. The latter can be hackeable to the point where you write a script that changes completely any single point of its UI.
AIMP is a complete music player for most users. It has a very beautiful and very customizable graphical interface (in addition to skins), amazing sound quality, great amount of features and integrations with other services, wide compatibility and some availability of plugins (which still need to be improved). The only most immediate cons I can think for now is the speed of reading local files and perhaps the lack of clarity in some features.
Very powerful and flexible, with support for advanced skins, playlists, online radio, multi-channel audio, and much more.
munteanzenoDownloaded an .ogg file, foobar2000 didn't open it (as most apps), this did.
ososstarIt's even better than foobar, nice interface also we can handle the music playlists, set hotkeys local/global, quick play/pause from icon in the tray and more of good features

Clementine vs foobar2000 opinions
It's free, it has a lot of features, but it is not as good as foobar2000. bug: memory leak.
Remote player control from Android
Clementine is just a basic audio player, whereas foobar2000 is a very advanced player.
mrdaltroIt's not well maintained, so... Expect encoders and decoders to be a lot obsolete, specially if you use Windows and the common static libraries! Also, you can expect a lot of online service libraries to not work very well. See Strawberry instead.
Lots of design, little contents
Strawberry is a music player and music collection organizer. It is a fork of Clementine released in 2018 aimed at music collectors and audiophiles. The name is inspired by the band Strawbs. It's written in C++ using the Qt framework.
Features
Strawberry vs foobar2000 opinions
Strawberry has many features that are similar to the ones I use most in foobar2000. I particularly like the queuing system as it allows me to maintain my playlists in the order I want while easily being able to cherry pick what I want to listen to right now. This is the best music player I have found that is available for Linux and it gets me closest to the experience I loved about using foobar2000 in Windows.

mrdaltroAmazing piece of software! I think it can do pratically anything Foobar can (even with extensions).
Can easily reorganize and rename large and messy music collections.
More simple than foobar2000.
I can manage 1000+ files with it

onkoeVery customizable, with a default GTK interface! Looks and runs great! Exactly what I wanted from a music player :)
Interface is very similar. Only the the animation is missing, but that's not why I used foobar in the first place.
23C5DAVery similar to foobar2000 but lacks a lot of refinements and details. Some hotkeys binding simply doesn't work. Cannot import/export theme and settings.
bVorkThe only Linux audio player that's as simple, compatible, and customizable as foobar2000.
Looks 99% like foobar2000, as a previous foobar2000 user. UI is almost exactly the same, never crashes, uses very little memory.
Like Foobar2000, you can customize the interface as well as you want, it supports easily flac files and metadata edition. DeadBeef is the alternative and open source furthermore.

Windows 98 + Winamp + MP3 + Limewire = The good old days of adopting a new music format.
Still works in W10.
Discontinued, yes, but set the standard in Windows audio playback. Incredibly feature rich and sounds excellent.
Winamp is around but an old version no longer updated at Winamp.com and using the old version site you can get earlier versions. Foobar2000 is the main replacement.
Audacious is an advanced audio player. It is free, lightweight, based on GTK+, runs on Linux and many other *nix platforms and is focused on audio quality and supporting a wide range of audio codecs. There is also support for several visual styles from Winamp.

RAIt's open source, runs on Linux and Windows, has an intuitive UI and just works without any unexpected shortcomings.
If you are looking for a Linux program to do the same thing foobar2000 does, this is probably your best bet. Has a gui very reminiscent of fb2k, a similar plugin system bundled with it, and support for almost all video game music formats out of the box.
Unk42Very similar to foobar2000 minimalistic interface. There is also support for Winamp skins + its a open source software.
Poor audio settings and useless/featureless gui.
gapless playback work perfectly :) bothing worse than those short pauses!
if this had a remote function would be awesome
the only thing i dont like is not being able to navigate to the folder from the context menu

Apple Music vs foobar2000 opinions
mrdaltroApple Music is a streaming service; foobar2000 is just "agnostic" music player that CAN play streaming, if configured to.
