Said about Xshell as an alternative
It has all the features that mRemoteNG in terms of console and this big PLUS it's its great X Shell support. When Xming refuses to work right, XShell saves the day.

...I finally gave Xshell a shot. Not terribly difficult to adapt to coming from a decade using PuTTY, and variants thereof. Well worth a try--it's free for non-commercial use.
Modern interface. Crazy full featured. Needs way more recognition.
