This is the only cross-platform solution I've found so far, and it's working a heck of a lot better than Synergy!7
Quick and easy setup, cross platform, minimal reading required to use.12
No longer maintained as of Feb 2022, development efforts have continued under the "InputLeap" project on GitHub0
Last update from November 2021. Main developers moved to Input Leap. For now both Input Leap and Barrier are more or less at the same state, but going forward Input Leap might be the better choice.2
open source, actively updated-1

Better than Synergy in that you can drag and drop files between computers. But... It's Windows only. So now other ecosystems allowed.3
Works like a charm, all the media buttons and all. Only flaw, the auth key isn't a copyable text so you have to copy it by hand and it's a bit long. Other than that, it's just right.2
Not cross-platform. Useless to me.2
Buggy installation. "Link" button does not work half the time. Would not connect even with correct code and computer name, on the same network.0
Does Not work with MacOS.0
Input Director is a Windows application that lets you control multiple Windows systems using the keyboard/mouse attached to one computer. It is designed for folks who have two (or more) computers set up at home and find themselves regularly sliding from one system to the other.

Very easy painless setup. It's free.0
It's very reliable, and the double tap to switch screens is great. Clipboard sharing works well too. The little window to show status helps when you have multiple monitors.0
Supports mouse movements absolutely critical to gaming on a different computer. Synergy did not the last time I used their version.0
The only free alternative to Synergy that works well and consistently-3
It is so much simpler to configure.1
Move the mouse to the monitor of the computer you wish to control and the pointer magically jumps to that computer. Any mouse and keyboard input is transmitted to the corresponding computer.

its is super easy to set up and its free.0
More features, easier setup, more reliable functionality.0
As its suppose to be free but its really NOT, only for 2 screens not even 2 computers, so if u have a laptop with second scra and another PC with one ur done and not nicely, works for cca 5 min a than kick out or pay, its not even possible to to use only one of those screens.4
Worked instantly across two Macs, one even with diffferent OS.1
It is cross platform. Super easy to set up, and most importantly, it is absolutely free for personal use!-1
Input Leap is software that mimics the functionality of a KVM switch, which historically would allow you to use a single keyboard and mouse to control multiple computers by physically turning a dial on the box to switch the machine you're controlling at any given moment.
