What is Input Director?
Input Director is a Windows application that lets you control multiple Windows systems using the keyboard/mouse attached to one computer. It is designed for folks who have two (or more) computers set up at home and find themselves regularly sliding from one system to the other. With Input Director, you can share a single keyboard/mouse across a set of computers. Computers with multiple monitors are fully supported. You switch which system receives the input either by hotkey or by moving the cursor so that it transitions from one screen to the other (in a very similar fashion to a multi-monitor setup).

- ontanoivesalUpvoted a comment on Input DirectoronI tried all the others first, and had problems with each: - Synergy is no longer free. Even the nightly builds are crippleware. - Mouse Without Borders swaps all keyboard and mouse like devices from all machines to the active one, which prevents use of an HTPC remote on my HTPC when slaved to a laptop. - ShareMouse considers preventing the mouse from switching screens unless Ctrl is pressed to be a premium feature, and nags the crap out of you about it. - MWB and ShareMouse both have issues with controlling games. ID has *none* of the above issues, and is completely free.

The latest version of Input Director is v2.0 and was released on the 22nd August 2020. This version continues to be free for personal use. However, this version is not compatible with Windows systems that are connected to an Active Directory (AD) domain. Which means that:

Hi Dominic,
I’ve made access to the non-commercial domain-compatible version request only, as I’ve had several large companies download and deploy the non-commercial version. As long as the purpose is for personal non-commercial use, it is still free.

I use V1.4. Works pretty fine. Totally agreed with HunterZ. And MouseWithoutBorders using .NET and I think this language is sort of glitching for some how. Dont like it.
It is a very good software, I'm using it to control 3 computer with 9 screens.
Easy to use and very reliable. Best KVM app out here
Made an immediate difference to my workflow on two computers. Amazingly easy to set up and use. Try this.
More humane than Synergy, easier to set up and use, really great one!
