Free version already able to

? Capture full web pages entirely ? Capture only visible part of the page ? Capture selection ? Save screenshot to disk as PDF (with links), PNG, and JPEG ? Copy screenshot to clipboard ? Print screenshot

which is already good enough !

In 2023, the free version has been emasculated to 'Lite' and offers very basic functionality.

I give FireShot 0 stars. < it will only go as LOW as 1 >. It is the best screen capture program I have ever used. I LOVE IT. I have been using a computer for 33 years now, I just LOVE FS. so WHY so LOW?? because the customer support sucks, big time. the tech supports sucks the same. I gladly PAID for FS after using it the 1st time around (3 years ago or so). then my computer crashed. and FS will not let me have my previously PAID FOR software back to use again. and then I was moving last year. and somehow the electrical system in my friends house KILLED my 8 year old laptop and I had to buy another. as in another laptop and ANOTHER VERSION of FireSHOT. so TAKE 2.0 <> but o shit. but AGAIN after several months later the laptop had a "certain" defect, the OS had to be reloaded and the C drive got wiped. Not FS problem but I HAD PAID a SECOND TIME for the p.o.s. AGAIN FireSHIT would not give me back my LICENSE #'s so I could USE the software. simply NO RESPONSE. I LOVE FS. it is great. but they should rename it according to their LACK of customer service and LACK of technical support. Now I just call it FireSHIT. close enough. That is why I am here looking for an alternative. something that can capture PDF's and allow the capability to open the website linked by the saved image. That is how I mainly use this.

FireShot Pro support on Linux can be summed up as follows: the extension (allegedly) is cross-platform. But the Pro installer isn't.

See here: https://getfireshot.com/features.php The comparison lists "Pro (non Windows)" and "Pro (Windows)" and the split of the features suggests that some Win32/64 helper software is being used for them.

This, in itself is not "wrong" or "inappropriate". But the installer for Pro is referred to as an *.exe installer in the manual (https://getfireshot.com/downloads/manual.pdf) (page 3):

"FireShot Pro Installation in Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer, Seamonkey and Thunderbird Please open your browser and type in the following link in the address bar and press Enter: http://getfireshot.com/fireshot-install.exe"

Here we have a Pro user running Linux https://getfireshot.com/sup/install-fireshot-with-chromium-under-linux-mint-v19-3/2861:

"I can install the lite version of Fireshot, but I can't update it to the Pro version, which I've already paid for. The Fireshot menu no longer includes "Specify a license code" or "Miscellaneous" with which you could enter the license code. How can I update my "lite" version to the "Pro" version. This must be my 3rd or 4th request." (Posted: 20 Apr 2020 07:15)

So it seems that if you're running Linux/MacOSX you're out of luck... or maybe not.

Here https://getfireshot.com/updated-lite.php we read: "Introducing Pro features support on Mac OS, Linux and Chrome OS.

— Advanced PDF functionality. — Improved page capturing capabilities."

I entered the "Insider Program" and now I get this banner:

"You are using the Insider's version of FireShot Pro features: advanced screenshot capabilities and PDF features (page setup, headers/footers/watermarks, direct links and searchable text)."

I'm also seeing ads and when I click on "remove advertising [x]" I get directed to the landing page for purchasing the Pro version.

I checked and Pro features (I'm mostly interested in PDF full-text selecting) work.

I really wanted to pay those people for their hard work on the software, but I'm not gonna pay for a product I can't install (without Wine trickery). I like helping independent developers, but this has to go both ways.

Can a moderator please edit the description? I'm new here, so I'm not sure how the community process works.

Thanks!

Corrected the entry here by deleting 'Windows' and 'Linux' as supported software because this application is just an extension / plug-in for popular browsers. Implying that it NEEDS a browser to be launched before it can be run. And it can only capture the contents of the browser in which it is running. So, NO it is NOT an alternative to apps like FlameShot which are independent programmes running by themselves and capable of capturing anything and everything that a human user sees and interacts REGARDLESS of whether any web browser is running or not.

Now I see screen tearing with Firefox 101.0.1.

I suspect problems with scrolling.

Love Fireshot when it works but there are far too many times when it outputs "not enough free RAM" error message when capturing a long page. It used to be a problem isolated to Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Vivaldi, Opera, etc.) but now it is happening on Firefox too! I then have to spend hours to find an alternative app that can potentially fulfill FireShot's promise: take a full page screenshot. So far I go with:

  • GoFullPage icon GoFullPage : only available on Chromium browsers. It does have its own limitation, as in, breaking down into multiple images, very long pages
  • Screenshot Full Page icon Screenshot Full Page : only available on Firefox. So far, it has worked fine for me.

What is FireShot?

Capture web page screenshots in Firefox, Chrome, Pale Moon or IE ... ... then edit and save them in a few clicks!

FireShot helps you capture web page screenshots, perform quick edits, add text annotations, and save the captures as a PDF or image file, send to e-mail, print or copy to clipboard, export, share on the WWW or upload to FTP.

CAPTURE FireShot integrates with Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Seamonkey, Pale Moon, Thunderbird and Opera. By doing this, FireShot can capture web pages entirely providing a high quality output. It's also possible to capture a selection or just a visible part of the web page.

EDIT There's no need to run an external editor to quickly resize, crop, highlight, blur, or erase desired elements. It's also extremely easy to add some quick text annotations! The captured web page is automatically opened in the built-in editor allowing you to perform all these tasks (and many more).

STORE The captures can be quickly annotated and:

  • Saved as PDF (with direct links), PNG, GIF, JPEG or BMP
  • Uploaded to Twitter, Picasa, Flickr, ImageShack, Custom HTTP of FTP server
  • Copied to clipboard
  • Printed
  • E-mailed
  • Exported
  • Sent to Microsoft OneNote
