    • Joplin is an open source note-taking alternative to Evernote that is also available on most mainstream platforms. Unlike Evernote, Joplin is an offline first and client-side encrypted app. On top of no upload limit, it can also import notes from Evernote and other note-taking services. These advantages and this support for migration makes Joplin an easy recommendation. View 548 alternatives to Joplin

miromarvel The only app simillar enough with Evernote that even can import notes from it. No Monthly upload limit like Evernote. FOSS and private :) A little strange to work with at first, but very fun and intutitve after that :)

utucuro Offline first, open source, client-side encryption, yet supports a wide variety of sync options. Has a better dark mode compared to Evernote and web clipping is actually a lot better with Joplin since you can have imported pages converted to Markdown, so you don't have weird behavior as in Evernote when you want to change something in an imported webpage.

generalSeven Let's me go cloud-free via syncthing across my android, linux & windows machines. Recently became significantly more useful for me because of the added ability to right-click on any notebook in the notebook sidebar to add a New sub-notebook (many times more efficient than creating a notebook which then must be dragged to under a notebook to make a sub-notebook).

    • Turtl is open source and encrypted end-to-end, so it's desirable as an Evernote alternative from a privacy standpoint. However, its development has ceased since 2019. It also lacks some of the more intricate features of Evernote and some of its highest rated alternatives, such as the ability to import notes from other programs. View 142 alternatives to Turtl

Turtl stores your info encrypted, unlike Evernote. Much more private.

Client-side AES encryption (private), open-source and free syncing. Markdown support, attachments, bookmarks, browser plugins and apps for Win, OsX, Linux and Android. Best used for simple notes, but it's infinitely better than, say Simplenote and much more private than Evernote.

kbabir Turtl has a great potential to be a full alternative to evernote in the future. But that will take time, still waiting for import feature from other services like evernote, simplenote etc.

JohnFastman Turtl is presently more of a bookmark sync utility than Evernote replacement. (For an open source Evernote replacement see TagSpaces). Unlike Evernote, Turtl is open source and use end-to-end encryption so that you can store simple notes and online bookmarks with full privacy, even from the Turtl developers. A browser plugin works together with the client to capture links. It's still being developed but already a good choice for cross-platform bookmark/note syncing.

    • Nimbus Note features an interface that is incredibly similar to Evernote's, but it has a few limitations in comparison. For one, it's not available for Linux or as a Firefox browser plugin. It also has a 100 MB limit for synced data and is not updated as frequently due to the development team's smaller size. Like Evernote, it does not encrypt data, so for those looking for a more private alternative, this likely isn't for you. View 162 alternatives to Nimbus Note

bibjasjs this is the closest program I have found that is a direct replacement for Evernote in both function and "feel". Support staff is excellent. There is even an Evernote Importer built in!

JohnFastman No Linux, no Mac client, no Firefox plugin. Your data rests unencrypted on US-based data centers in readable format. So all the privacy concerns of Evernote minus some of the convenience.

Nimbus has the potential to seriously challenge Evernote. I found it intuitive, easy to use with a beautiful and neat interface. Better than OneNote esp since it offers tagging.

Nimbus Note is for PC users, very simillar to Evernote. It is possible to import all information at once. If you are fine with 100 MB synced data it is free for any number of devices. It has very good online web interface, Windows app is nice, work offline but has some bugs in text editor (formatting) and has no updates for a long period. I cannot recommend Windows Metro App, it is unusable. For users, who prefer MS or Google and want to use images in their notes, is it possible way.

conceptual Nimbus Note looks similar, and with similar functionality to Evernote, and a bit faster too.
