Brave may block third-party trackers, but it collects data on you and will gladly share your information with third-parties, as shown by Switched to Linux. Mozilla, on the other hand, doesn't collect data on you unless you allow them, and you can download extensions that block third-party trackers.

Because the tracking prevention is way worse. The extension page with recommended extensions, for example, sends telemetry data to Google. Also, Google is the default search engine, which just screams tracking to me.

Good base browser still but Mozilla is increasingly adding bundled paid services into it. I understand they have to find other sources of funding besides Google donations, but it's still something to be aware of.

The most privacy-oriented browser there is. However, due to its learning curve and different setup, it's easier to use by the power user. If you don't want to learn how to use Tor, go with Firefox. Brave collects your data and displays you ads.

Not quite as thorough in its privacy features, but it does include ad/tracker blocking. Instead of adding crypto/ads/AI like Brave, it has optional email/feed/calendar. It's the spiritual successor to the original, pre-acquisition Opera, and they have a strong track record of supporting the user community.

I would say the best alternative to brave. Very powerful tracker blocking, free and open source and just an amazing browser. Only problem is the librewolf settings don't sync, which is annoying for me since I distro hop.

The new "true" Firefox. Modern Firefox but without Mozilla's bloatware. Default privacy settings are a bit extreme for regular use, but can be tweaked down accordingly.

Its privacy features are comparable to Brave's, and it isn't loaded down with all the AI/crypto stuff.

Similar to FireFox, it does NOT share any information, it's basically like FireFox on steroids (in a good way). I personally use Waterfox and I think it is really good.

More like GNU/Chromium. Won't let you install extensions from the Chrome Web Store. Won't play any kind of DRM content out of the box. Cryptic errors occasionally.

Very hostile for the average person.
