I used BetterTouchTool for so long that when I didn't want to pay for it and went back to how things were before it felt like my screen got smaller and I was using the mouse to drag and flip windows around so much I wasn't getting as much done. Did a quick search today and installed Shiftit, a free, open-source replacement and man, does my screen feel more useful again. Got maximize, sides, corners, incrementally increasing and decreasing. More options than I had before and I'm loving it!
Easy customization of both trackpad/mouse type devices and keyboards. And as a bonus includes Windows7-like window snapping ability, which works really well (I found it to be better than Cinch which is commercial).
I echo what the previous reviewer said! I was testing out a free trial of Moom when I came upon BetterTouchTool and instantly replaced the $10 Moom.
Here are bullet points of win:
Window snapping has worked perfectly, and outside of apps with non-resizable windows (e.g. System Preferences), I haven't found an app it doesn't work with (haven't tried more specialized apps like XCode, though).
The ability to set custom trackpad gestures with modifier keys is great! I have Shift + Fn + 2-finger swipes in each direction to snap the active window to that side of the screen. Don't even have to go through all the trouble of clicking and dragging :). You can also set gestures to custom key combos, which makes for interesting possibilities in apps like Photoshop.
There are a LOT of customizable features with this app. Makes for kind of a messy settings interface, but I will take functionality over slightly more complex settings.
Really not too much else to say about this app. It does what it says (and then some) and does it well! The developer did an awesome job.
Free version you can do good things like move windows side by side.
If you do get licensed, it is awesome. It has editable commands more than the average system. They update so you know support is not dead and will be compatible for future use.
Down side is that it's only for MAC OS, i have been trying to find a windows version/alternative. still finding.
Another one is there's still some lag when you start the macbook pro. you have to restart the program but other than that it's perfect for any multi tasking you deem fit.
forced to learn it but now i love it. it's like math, you'll need it LOL!
