Canva has unveiled AI 2.0, its biggest push yet to replace traditional design with prompts

Just a day after Adobe introduced its Firefly AI Assistant across several of its main creative apps, Canva has now made its own move and introduced Canva AI 2.0, in what the company is calling its biggest AI launch yet and a major step in its vision of "revolutionizing traditional design" by moving away from manual creation and toward a more completely automated prompt driven, generative process; something I would personally describe as AI Generative Design. At the center of the update is a conversational interface that lets users describe an idea or goal in natural language and have Canva generate designs other assets entirely from scratch. Behind it is a new orchestration layer that connects Canva’s tools so the AI can handle more complex multi step tasks from one interface.

Canva says everything generated through AI 2.0 remains fully editable inside the platform, allowing users to change images, fonts, and other individual elements without affecting the rest of the design, which sets it apart from most other AI platforms like ChatGPT and even some of the AI features from Adobe, where edits often end up being far more destructive to previous work. The update also introduces object based intelligence for more precise prompt driven edits to specific parts of a project, while Canva’s new Memory Library and broader persistent memory system allow the assistant to learn from previous work and apply more consistent branding, styling, and creative context over time.

The update focuses mostly on AI stuff, but that's not the only thing being added to the platform, which also brings a unified connector interface for integrations with apps like Slack and Gmail, HTML import support in Canva Code, and the ability to pull contextual data from external services such as Notion, Zoom, and Google Calendar. The update is launching as a research preview and is initially rolling out to the first one million users who visit the Canva homepage.
