Dropbox has launched a powerful universal search tool powered by AI called Dropbox Dash
Dropbox is not only known as a popular cloud storage and collaboration platform but also offers a wide range of features and tools to enhance productivity. In fact, the company has recently unveiled two innovative AI-focused products, namely Dropbox Dash and Dropbox AI. These new offerings add to the catalog of services, but this time focused on using artificial intelligence to enhance document management and provide a unified search experience for its users.
Dropbox Dash acts as a comprehensive search bar, seamlessly connecting users with their files, tools, content, and apps. Serving as a one-stop shop, Dash allows users to effortlessly locate information from various sources, whether it's locally stored files on their computer or online resources hosted on its numerous integrations. This is one of the most intriguing aspects of Dash as it goes beyond content solely within the Dropbox platform. In fact, it offers several integrations with major platforms like Google Workspace, Outlook.com, Salesforce, JIRA, Asana, Figma, Notion, among many others. This means that Dropbox Dash functions as a central hub, providing a seamless workflow by consolidating all essential search functionalities into a single, intuitive interface. So you can think of Dash as a kind of alternative to Spotlight or Everything, but with a stronger focus on intelligently searching through the external services you use daily, rather than just the files stored on your computer.
Dropbox AI, on the other hand, is essentially an integral part of Dash as it takes advantage of advanced AI technologies to deliver document summaries and effectively answer user queries. With this powerful feature, users can obtain concise explanations of content such as contracts and meeting recordings. For example, by simply asking specific questions about any Google Drive file to Dropbox AI through Dash, it intelligently reads the document and provides relevant and accurate answers, streamlining the process of information retrieval without the need to go through the entire document to find what is specifically needed. The goal with Dropbox AI & Dash, is to offer customers a dialog box similar to ChatGPT that can respond to inquiries about both personal and work-related content within their digital realm.
One notable feature of Dropbox Dash browser extension are 'Stacks', a sort of smart collections of organized URL's for frequently used sites/pages. This allows users to conveniently categorize, and access relevant webpages based on specific topics or projects. La idea es que todo esto se condense en dashboard of Dropbox Dash, offering a rich array of tools, including search capabilities, shortcuts, and suggested contextual items, further streamlining the user's productivity and information retrieval process.
Currently, Dropbox AI for file previews is available in alpha for Dropbox Pro customers in the United States, with plans to roll it out to select Dropbox Teams. Users can join the waitlist for Dropbox Dash to be among the first to experience the seamless and powerful unified search bar. Or if for any reason you don't want to or can't wait, there are some alternatives similar to what Dash will offer (with some differences), such as Station, Raycast, or Slapdash.
