Everything
File and folder lookup tool that searches across local, removable, and network mapped drives.
What is Everything?
"Everything" is an administrative tool that locates files and folders by filename instantly for Windows. Unlike Windows search "Everything" initially displays every file and folder on local or removable NTFS volumes on your computer (hence the name "Everything"), and on mapped network drives with ETP server and an everything installation too. You type in a search filter to limit what files and folders are displayed. 19 languages supported.
How can "Everything" index a mapped network drive? To search a networked computer you will need to run Everything on both computers. One computer will need to Start an ETP server. The other computer will need to connect to that ETP server.
To start an ETP server:
- In Everything, On the Tools menu, click Start ETP server.
To connect to an ETP server:
- In Everything, On the Tools menu, click Connect to ETP Server....
- Type in the ETP server name.
- Type in the ETP server port.
- Type in the ETP server user.
- Type in the ETP server password.
- Click OK.

Everything is a must-have app that does what it says it does in a clear, simple, flexible and very efficient way. Anybody working with a large number of files spread out in multiple directories will find benefit in using Everything.
How to use it:
Very useful. Instantaneous. Small memory footprint. Not processor intensive. Lots of options.
No it does not search inside files, nor does it claim to do so, nor do I need it too do so ; that would make it too heavy and slow for my use.
Thanks Everything!
2022 update: Everything is still an essential tool for my everyday needs and is still unmatched by Windows' search capacities (which are nowhere near as useful as Everything).

Development of Everything has resumed again after many years.
I used to check every week for about 30 months and then got tired of doing so and stopped checking. The one day I was on Samer Kurdi's website and he mentioned that there was a new version of Everything on the voidetools website.
Everything 1.3.3.658b Beta for Windows is the current beta version.
It is now under active development - 15 beta versions released since early January to June this year.
Before this new development initiative the last work done on Everything was in March 2009.
It is much faster than before!.
UAC issue fixed. Everything now runs a service as an elevated background session. Then when you start the program each time it runs the client interface in the user session. (You only need to deal with the UAC the first time you run the program).
My all time favorite app has just got better.
Have tried many search programs like Locate32, Ultra File Search, Index Your Files, Copernic, etc.
Best of bred

There needs to be a networked version for NAS(Network Attached Storage) Devices that does not need to be installed.
I love Everything for it's one-panel efficient listing style, and I think I will make it my everyday workhorse. I had a few issues, but I made adjustments for them 1 It kept asking for administration rights. This was easily solved using Prio Process Saver which gives you a method to set admin rights. Perhap if Everything is installed via administrator rights, there wouldn't be a need to use Prio.7/5/2022 I have been noticing though, that sometimes Everything will miss a file in results, even if it isn't a new file.. So I use Listary as my backup when I'm in doubt. Also that constant database updating thing is a drain that I've figured how to avoid 8/14/2022 3rd issue..Love this program, but it seems to challenge the resources of my humble older pc more than any other program I use..The Portable Version seems to be a lot more manageable and less of a drain. I switched to Portable.
Everything search is lightning fast (in scanning, searching and sorting), supports regular expressions and a bunch of implemented functions. Functions make it easy to search for certain properties, e.g. changed on/after/before a specific date/time. Content search is also supported, but not as fast due to files' contents not being indexed. (Though, in 1.5 alpha content indexing can be configured in the options.)
When appropriately configured the app can find any file or folder on local or network drives within seconds - no matter how deeply nested. The items' context menu then contains the same entries as if it was openend in explorer. Selected files/folders can then be run, edited, moved, copied, deleted... or explored comfortably.
Everything has a clean interface, is highly configurable, uses very litte resources and is one of my most essential applications.
Absolutely superb file and folder finder/search tool, On installation indexes everything on you PC, then indexes evey new file or change. Doesn't look inside any file, just finds the file pretty well instantly. Completly invaluable, first install tool, tiny size, massive effect
Fast, support RegExp.
