Co-host at Radio Bros
I just love tinkering and trying out new software on my devices. In fact I'm such a tech-fiend that it's all we talk about in the 'Offline with the Radio Bros' podcast of which I am a co-host.

1 opinion- CryptPadAlternative to Microsoft 365 Copilot · “I like Cryptpad as an alternative to M365, where it allows you to self-host your own office suite, which looks like an instance of OnlyOffice hosted in the "cloud" while respecting E2EE and is open source. If you'd rather use the cloud than self-host you can use a public instance or a paid plan for hosting and storage.”18 people think this is a good alternative18

1 opinion- AppFlowyAlternative to Microsoft Loop · “The interface is very similar to Microsoft Loop where you can create different types of content and nest them. The one thing that I do not like is the inability to paste images into a page.”1 person thinks this is a good alternative1

1 opinion- Proton MailAlternative to Gmail · “Proton Mail is my primary email and I have been moving away from GMail. In fact I do pay for it. Proton Mail has been reliable and their support has been great. The UI is different and pleasant, and they have apps that cater for different platforms (Windows, macOS, Android, etc).”443 people think this is a good alternative443

AdBlockAlternative to NextDNS · “NextDNS operates at the system level to filter requests for privacy, whereas AdBlock is a browser extension making it very limited. I don't really see this as an alternative.”6 people think this is not a good alternative6
Adblock PlusAlternative to NextDNS · “While Adblock Plus is a good browser extension, if you want a system wide DNS filtering this will not give you what you want. As such I wouldn't suggest this as an alternative to NextDNS.”16 people think this is not a good alternative16

CorelDRAW Graphics SuiteAlternative to Adobe Photoshop43 people think this is a good alternative43
Corel PaintShop ProAlternative to Adobe Photoshop · “I do remember using PaintShop Pro before Corel bought it. Corel's no stranger to creative software with their staple Corel Draw. It may not be free, like The GIMP, but PaintShop Pro is a powerful piece of kit without a steep learning curve for those who come from a Photoshop background.”82 people think this is a good alternative82- PapersAlternative to Adobe Acrobat DC · “It's not a PDF editor, but a really nice looking viewer/reader.”2 people think this is not a good alternative2
- PDF ArrangerAlternative to Adobe Acrobat DC · “It may not be anywhere near the full offering of Adobe Acrobat but if all you want is to arrange pages and merge PDFs into one doc this would definitely be recommended for your toolkit. PDF Arranger helped me recently when I was scanning double-sided documents but my scanner does not scan both sides in one go. I flipped the pages without re-arranging the papers - oops - but was able to quickly rectify it using this app.”9 people think this is a good alternative9
PDFgearAlternative to Adobe Acrobat DC · “It does an excellent job of converting my M$ docs. The OCR capabilities are really good and the ability to arrange pages (including splitting and merging with other PDFs) is another bonus. The install is lightweight in comparison to Adobe Acrobat and I've not had any stability issues... yet”11 people think this is a good alternative11

Microsoft Visual StudioAlternative to Lazarus · “While MS Visual Studio is a powerful IDE for Windows, an alternative to Lazarus should allow to you to develop and compile in (Free) Pascal. Therefore, the inclusion of MS Visual Studio as an alternative is incorrect.”7 people think this is not a good alternative7- KDE ConnectAlternative to Phone Link · “I think it's a pretty good alternative to Phone Link. You get a lot of similar functionality: - share files and link between devices - view and reply to phone notifications on your desktop - pause/play music playback - view battery level - supports Bluetooth connections - share clipboard - cross-platform support (Win, *nix) It does have more features that I don't use, such as remote control. Though I'd really like to see it do screen mirroring or integrate with scrcpy.”27 people think this is a good alternative27
- ONLYOFFICEAlternative to Google Docs · “If you do move from M$ Office then the learning curve with OnlyOffice is not that steep, as they try to emulate the style of Office. The tabbed interface between different types of usage (word processor, spreadsheet, etc) is pretty cool. While the feature parity with Microsoft not there, OnlyOffice is very capable and (in my view) pretty much on par with Google Docs, as it can also be connected with other cloud storage providers.”18 people think this is a good alternative18

2 opinions- LibreOffice - WriterAlternative to Google Docs · “While I like and appreciate LibreOffice as an alternative desktop office suite, it does not fulfill the criteria for this alternative. It needs to provide an online collaboration experience, which it unfortunately doesn't provide today. Peer-to-peer collaboration is on the roadmap, which I'm very eager to see implemented. More info [here](https://design.blog.documentfoundation.org/2024/07/17/peer-to-peer-collaboration-with-libreoffice/).”19 people think this is not a good alternative19
DaVinci ResolveAlternative to Adobe Premiere Pro · “DaVinci Resolve is a worthy contender to Adobe Premiere. Fine, while free, it's not open source but the interface is slick and easy to use. The free version does have limited support for codecs and outputs, but it does cover the main formats for dabblers like me. Thought once departure from the keyframing behaviour effects, it does use node-based composition. Still. For editing, composition, colour correction and posting to social media sites, this is the one.”397 people think this is a good alternative397

1 opinion- VSCodiumAlternative to Visual Studio Code · “My go-to FOSS editor of choice, where Microsoft telemetry is removed. I do use it occasionally for Markdown as there are plenty of extensions that work with it. But my Markdown editor of choice is Typora. It's not as extensible as the original as the VSCode (esp. Microsoft-made extensions) but there's still plenty available. Have a look at the [Open VSX Registry](https://open-vsx.org/).”144 people think this is a good alternative144

4 opinions- Affinity PhotoAlternative to Adobe Photoshop · “Affinity Photo has a very polished interface and there's not a big learning curve if you're coming from Photoshop. It is very suitable for professionals that want to process and edit images. The affordable one-time fee for a perpetual license is also a major boost. Sometimes you may even find it on offer, so can get Photo at a much lower price. Performs very well on my macOS and Windows machines. Though I'm not a professional, I just like to dabble.”729 people think this is a good alternative729

HeliBoardAlternative to Microsoft SwiftKey · “It has the ability to support gesture typing, although it's based on a closed library. There's also basic theming and autocorrect.”3 people think this is a good alternative3
KeyvizAlternative to KeyCastr · “My favourite alternative to KeyCastr for Windows. I like it for it's simplicity and minimal config to get started.”1 person thinks this is a good alternative1
APKMirrorAlternative to Google Play Store · “Founded by Artem Russakovskii (the founder of Android Police), APKMirror is a community driven approach to hosting APKs for free apps. If you do have an AOSP device, and don't have access to Google Play Store, this is the next best thing. I use this with F-Droid.”38 people think this is a good alternative38
