The world needs an encrypted Evernote replacement
The world needs a privacy-respecting Evernote replacement. Evernote is the market leader in note-taking apps and has some tremendous features. However, it stores user data unencrypted on web-facing servers, it's been hacked and lost user data, and the CEO only reversed [a policy decision to allow employees to read user...
Commented on BearUpdate:
Below is my 2017 review of Bear, privacy concerns and all. A particularly vocal critic of my view seems to imply that my criticism is against the Italian origins of the Bear app. Even a cursory reading of what I wrote will show this is not the case. I have nothing against Italians. I was merely imploring the potential customers of Bear to consider that their data might be subject to Italian law, about which most will know very little.
Nearly three years later, I can offer more...

I have tried Joplin. I think it's a good app. I had it in this list before, but prefer Crypt.ee. But there's nothing wrong with Joplin.
Calendaring is something I am so angry about, you have no idea. Absolutely no privacy-oriented service provides a fully-featured, synced calendaring option, despite it being the back-bone of many people's online work flow. The closest thing used to be Countermail's calendar, which was zero-knowledge encrypted and built into their...

Downvoted a comment on Maxthon Browser as an alternative to Vivaldiactually it really is an good alternative whenever there's a problem and you notify them you'll get respond within real short time to solve whatever problem you have
Thinks these are alternatives- Google ChromeMozilla Firefox
Chrome is closed-source and part of Google's privacy-invading business model, which works by harvesting user data. Firefox is open source, so you can check what it's doing under the good. It's also more configurable (about:config) and its Nov 2017 update made it faster than its competitors.
- VivaldiBrave
At their core, both Brave and Vivaldi are descendants of Chromium. But Brave is FAR more committed to protecting privacy. It blocks ads and trackers out-of-the-box, it's faster and Private tabs use Tor for anonymous browsing. Brave is also fully open source (Vivaldi is kinda, but includes a lot of 3rd party cr*p) and doesn't have the normal nasty EULA.

Liked Semaphor, GOG.com, Wolfram Alpha and SimplenoteSemaphor is built around zero-knowlege encryption to prevent their parent company employees, government agencies and hackers from getting at user data. Slack is nothing like as secure or private because they don't build in such encryption. Other encrypted products in this space are Stackfield and Peerio.
The whole point of iDrive, Tresorit, SpiderOak and Sync.com is that they offer a zero-knowledge model based on encryption which prevents even the company from viewing user files. iCloud is NOT like that; files stored with iCloud can be viewed by Apple, subpoenad by the US govt and stolen in readable format by hackers. Go with encryption if you value your privacy.
