It has too much options for an incompetent user to setup. Also, it does not tell the external IP address of the user, so I cannot connect.

Remmina is a great RDP or VNC client. These are already listed as remote desktop technologies. Let's be clear the main advantage of TeamViewer (and LogMeIn) is that the remote computer only needs an Internet connection. No port forwarding required.

Really awesome for Linux users to remotely connect to their computers through a secure connection. Allows for transmission of audio from the client, and works really well even with slow connections. To summarize: secure by default (because using ssh), good even in low latency, good for presentations, and best alternative to RDP for linux users.

Aspia is great for direct connections on the same network. It will also work for public IP connected devices, but needs no settings to be changed for local network connections.
