The things this project achieved in such a short time is pretty good. The UI is nice and clean, it is very fast and has tons of features.Unfortunately, it will never get a mobile port due to lack of funding and developer time issues. Still I appreciate what they have done.

interface is very pretty
has a very fast search functionality, it also search sulfolders
adding to te search convenience, it allows you to keep searching the same search query by default so you can click on any disk and it will show you what you want
it has a functionality which is basically same to outlook it allows you to preview files like images, pdfs, videos and even code. allows to open it quickly with default app while preview ,ofc
it has a very intuitive interface that you can handle easily by mouse, but if you prefer it has sane defaults keybindings that you can edit.
it has access to the file explorer if for any reason you want to switch quickly to it, it also has a keybinding to it, it allows you to open with in general Spacedrive is a very convenient tool and doesn't try to block you into it, it doesn't way in your way.
if you enjoy tools for seemless workflow and a pretty but useful interface I think you will like SpaceDrive a lot.
i will update this review as I experiment more with it since i think this is a very edge and convenient tool, also the roadmap is available to the public and I like what I see!
It wants to collect and use your data, I didn't go into any documents to see what data they want, but I think that my file explorer should not even connect to the internet, collect or send ANY data to anyone.

Tracking in a file manager? Who's fabulous idea was that? A file manager should neither send data or connect to the internet at all. Good luck with such a mindset...
The app shows potential and is aesthetically pleasing, but given the Tauri framework (Rust + WebView2 for windows) approach to cloud services and networking technologies, it doesn't seem to make sense for many everyday tasks: compressing and moving files, creating folders, copying and pasting, etc... These things need to be very fast when needed, but it's easy to get distracted from simple tasks when cloud synchronization is happening and indexing is running. Additionally, user data collection should be able to be turned off completely.
Very pretty looking. Have big potential until release.
But for the current version (Alpha 0.4.1), Windows default File Explorer is still far more flexible, faster, and easier to use. It takes 100% of my CPU to index (?) during the first launch, first time I see that in file explorer apps.
I don't see any way to make folders appear on top instead of files, resizing the app window is really painful, can only see 4-5 drives means one extra click for "show more" button, does not save session, slow, etc. Sadly I uninstalled after 5 minutes.
I'll try again in 2025 after release. Good luck on the development.
I think this is the best file manager for structuring, organising workspaces and viewing content, there are enough flaws but as I understand everything continues to be developed and refined. It looks awesome and has just HUGE potential
