Mozilla has incredible features, the new 'Firefox Quantum' layout is easy to use and clean to look at. Very customisable, and good privacy control.

Like Chrome it brings compromises in terms of platform specific user experience due to its cross platform nature. However I consider it the best alternative. Even though the developer tools did not scale well considering performance. They become unresponsive too fast with large documents and data loads.

Paying the websites you visit is better than prostituting yourself to advertisement. Way better, in fact internet became very disrespectful before ad-blockers went viral.

Spiritual successor to the original Opera. Super-customizable, respects your privacy better than most Chromium-based web browsers, and the one I've settled on as my main browser on macOS for now. Can optionally open into a full suite of web/mail/calendar/feeds, or just stay as a web browser.

A solid, privacy-protecting browser suitable for everyday use. You may need to tweak the anti-fingerprinting settings for some sites to work, but I've only run into a handful of those.

The biggest drawback on macOS is that the regular installer doesn't include an updater (they recommend using Homebrew instead), and the app isn't signed, so you do need to jump through a few hoops to get it out of quarantine so recent OS versions will actually run it.

Effective, free and open source privacy respecting solution. Integrates with the Firefox plugin ecosystem and provides more options than Safari in my experience. For example, consider YouTube distraction management plugins where most I found on the App Store were paid whereas you've got fantastic standard solutions like Unhook on the Firefox extension marketplace. Last I looked, Chromium didn't really have a stable release available on macOS. Google of course would prefer that you just use Chrome, but another Chromium-based browser like Vivaldi is going to be easier to manage.

On the plus side, it rips out everything that talks to Google behind your back. On the minus side, it doesn't replace those Google-specific features, making it awkward to deal with. (For instance: It can use Chromium extensions, but it doesn't trust the Chrome Web Store.)
