"Partitions" are folder windows (no automatic grouping of desktop icons), similar to Portals - you have to keep taking new shortcuts from the desktop to the folders when software updates and adds the shortcuts again.

On latest Windows 11 updated to the day:

  • these "partitions" (folder windows) don't pin to the desktop / background - they just act like normal windows and other windows go behind them when you click them, or rather they come to the front of other windows I guess;
  • program crashes if any of the "partitions" contain any unsupported icons such as Steam games shortcuts and other Internet shortcuts and more;

On the upside, when you double-click inside these "partitions" (let's call them containers) on a subfolder, it switches (opens into view) to that one inside that container, so that's a nice way of organizing many icons (especially since it will stay like that for the Windows session).

Another upside is the looks - the "partitions"/windows are a streamlined yet modern style, with translucency.

What is Partitions?

Partitions is the ultimate app to help you organize your desktop! Gone are the days of cluttered desktops with dozens (or even hundreds) of files. Using Partitions, you can create groupings of files and shortcuts right on your desktop.

Each partition acts as a desktop widget that you can resize, change the color or transparency, or modify the view of icons. By fencing in these icons and files into individual containers, your desktop has never looked so clean before!

PRO features allow you to browse to existing folders. It's just like having portals to multiple Windows Explorers right on your desktop.

Features: -Organize your desktop files, icons, and shortcuts -Create groupings for your files and shortcuts -Add multiple windows explorers on your desktop (Ex: create portals for Documents, Pictures, Downloads, etc) -Customize the font color, background, transparency, and size of each partition -De-clutter your desktop by moving all your files, icons, and shortcuts into containers -Navigate into folders and open links within each partition -Bring partitions to the foreground while you work -A free alternative to Stardock's Fences with optional enhancements
