By far the most intense, feature-rich GTD app (by FAR!)...but the UX/workflow is nasty. Ugh
Unfortunately, according to AlternativeTo, MyLifeOrganized does not support macOS or web.
So, why only 1 star ?
@Michel That rating was a mistake –– I meant to just leave a comment instead.
Long time user of paid version, some reasons why I like MLO:
Data privacy: Most advanced todo apps I know are cloud only. Here I can keep data securely on my own devices, and still have the comfort to edit stuff both on my mobile and my desktop, synced directly via wifi. I use GTD for both personal and professional tasks, and knowing that data won't be stored outside my devices adds a degree of freedom to what I can enter there, no need to second-guess what might be too sensitive to be potentially accessible to e.g. an evernote support employee. There are other open-source options, which I've tested with great enthusiasm (a few years ago now), but MLO was easier and quicker in everyday use for me.
Customizable: Flags and goals and the ability to create views with complex filters helps tailoring the usage to personal needs. I have views for specific situations where I can work on tasks, views for the different gtd phases, a view with things that needs to be done in the next week, etc.
Complex repeat patterns allow me to manage all my reminders here.
Task dependencies: MLO offers both a quick and easy solution (subtasks in order), and more complex if I need it (arbitrary dependencies).
It's mature, stable and fast.
Some negative points:
No attachment support (so far). I occasionally miss it, but can live without it, as it also adds complexity, like the need for archiving/cleanup strategies for larger attachments.
Markdown support could be a bit better, both in the editor and the display.
Creating tasks with reminders etc by parsing voice or text input ("call someone tomorrow 10:00") is a potentially great feature, but it doesn't recognize half of what it claims on my german android. Might be better in other languages.
Not cheap, but reasonably priced and well worth it for me, considering how much I use it.
I have been using MyLifeOrganized since 2011. Back in the day I tried every list-making app I could find. By 2012 I settled on this highly configurable tool and have been an active user ever since. The MLO team has continued to roll out new features, added multi-language support and delivers responsive (email) service, all done with a small Ukranian team. Of particular note for me was the introduction Task/Project/Goal Dashboards in early 2023. I am a big fan.
That said, because there is a rich, flexible set of features, it can take a while to get the program to perform as the personalized task and reminder system tailored to your needs and wants. I expect each user finds a different set of features, which become useful for how they want to track their events. For example MLO supports task geo-location, so that tasks only show up when you are in a specific place - very cool code for a task manager. I never use it, but I have seen other reviewers consider it one of the program's most important features. There are lots of thoughtful features throughout because the product has been developed and refined for over a decade.
If you are looking for a full-featured task manager, I encourage you to evaluate MLO in detail.
Extremely powerful and well-thought. With endless hierarchy of subtasks, flexible filters, it helps me keep on track all my projects.
I bought the pro edition for Windows because it seemed to do everything I was looking for in a very simple way. It's let me organise a project I was working on and get some clarity to what has to be done and in what order it needs to be achieved. No faulting it's ability to do that.
However, I also want to be able to update the plan on my iPad, so I installed the iPad version. WiFi sync was faultless and I was quickly working on both iPad and PC, swapping projects with ease. That's when I found that I needed to pay around 50% of the Windows price for the iPad app in order to retain sync capability. Given that there are many free alternatives out there, and given the price of typical iPad apps, I found the cost of the iPad app makes this a very expensive package.
As a result, I deleted the iPad app and have hardly used MLO on the PC. I guess it depends on needs, but I will always need both PC and iPad.
after comparing MLO to other "standard" todo apps like RTM, Astrid, Any.DO as well as other list-capable tools like Evernote and Wunderlist, I found that no other software in the market is nearly as customizable and versatile as MLO. also worth mentioning is the interactive approach the developer takes towards further releases, where users can vote for their most-desired features to be implemented. didn't have any technical difficulties, so I can't really judge the support.
been a fan for several years now, using the app on Windows (both desktop and laptop, at work and at home) and Android (via Cloud Sync) in the PRO version, I'm still amazed by the features MLO offers and integrates into one sound task management concept. only drawback is the not-so-fancy look of the Windows app, hoping for an upgrad with the V4 here ;)
