Hamachi was a good P2P VPN for its time, but its lack of device and os support is now much more limited. ZeroTier may seem be a little bit more complex than Hamachi, but has WAY MORE Features! I love the true distributed firewall / acl support. Installation was quite easy across devices, Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone, Windows and Android. I am highly recommending this product and service. Did I mention its free too!

Works without configuring any port forwarding on routers.Cloud based hosted controller and centralized management. Supports many different clients and is faster then Hamachi from my Android Client.

WireGuard is an extremely simple yet fast and modern VPN that utilizes state-of-the-art cryptography. It aims to be faster, simpler, leaner, and more useful than IPSec, while avoiding the massive headache. It intends to be considerably more performant than OpenVPN.

  3. SoftEther VPN ("SoftEther" means "Software Ethernet") is one of the world's most powerful and easy-to-use multi-protocol VPN software. It runs on Windows, Linux, Mac, FreeBSD and Solaris.

SoftEther VPN vs LogMeIn Hamachi opinions
This alternative is disputed. SoftEther VPN is still a legitimate alternative to LogMeIn Hamachi, but it might have issues that some users think are important.

SoftEther is backward compatible with OpenVPN, open source, multiplatform, supports layer 2 bridging (such as for connecting other protocols like IPX), but as a MEDIATED VPN (requiring no special set-up behind most NAT routers which allow outgoing traffic) it is not very widely supported nor convenient to set up by non-techsavvy users.

Layer 2 network allows multi-cast packets, and client is easy for gamers to setup; server is easy for those who have experience with servers.

It's set up using tons of commands and IPs and I think it's client-server only instead of peer-to-peer like Hamachi is.

Softether does not do nat traversal despite claiming it does. Even after setting everything up, my server still can't be reached by anyone outside my lan. Hamachi is made specifically for this and allows you to tunnel through your ISP nat that is blocking incoming connections.

Tailscale is supported on every major operating system (including mobile), it's super easy to get started and has been extremely reliable. It supports access rules and multiple users, and there is an open-source server you can host yourself if you don't want to use the provided one.
