Nextcloud is an open source software that allows you to manage your files and sync them across all your devices - like Dropbox. There are, however, several differences: You can self-host a Nextcloud instance, allowing you to fully manage it, or you can use a Nextcloud provider to host your data for you. You have access to more security, privacy and administration options. You can add plugins for almost everything (emails, tasks, calendars, maps, news, video chats, notes, and more).

Of course, it’s a bit more complicated to set up since you have to self-host it or find a provider, but if what you’re looking for is an open source and extensible solution that you can fully manage yourself, Nextcloud might be the right pick for you.

With self-hosted sync, you maintain complete control over your data instead of trusting it to some third-party company. Plus, Nextcloud offers handy features like calendar integration and automatic photo uploads from your phone

It runs well even on an old laptop or a large server, great for sharing files, collaborating on documents and managing my photo library.

Only fools are still using Dropbox. Syncthing is perfect and provides as many GB as your disk has for free. Free yourself form Dropbox scams such as their "double accountability of GB" where shared folders take away your GB.

pCloud is a good alternative to Dropbox because it offers the same functionality with the following benefits: 1. It offers the option of an encrypted folder, so even pCloud employees can't see or steal your data; 2. pCloud is based in Switzerland where privacy rules are far stronger than in the US. 3. pCloud offers a larger amount of free space (5GB vs 2GB from Dropbox.)

Data privacy is far better than Dropbox, and the encrypted folder works well. It acts just like a drive connected to your PC, not a folder, so the file is stored directly in your cloud account, and not at all on your device. When you het the larger drives (I have the 2TB), it allows me to run the Built-in backup utilities on the web interface to back up Dropbox, facebook, Google Drive and Google Photo's, giving me an extra level of redundancy in my backups.

End-to-end encrypted Dropbox alternative. Does what Dropbox, Google Drive and others do. But the files are only ever encrypted with passwords you keep, on your computer. So Tresorit doesn't get to see your private stuff. Expensive for individuals, though, but fantastic security.

Tresorit does everything Dropbox does, except that it's far more secure and private. It operates in Switzerland and keeps your files encrypted in a way that even the employees can't see them. This means that if they were hacked, your information isn't going to be leaked and they can't pass it on to snooping three-letter agencies.
