Europe’s Open-Source Solutions: Your Guide to Transparent, Independent and GDPR-Aligned Software.
This guide is designed for anyone looking to take greater control of their digital life by choosing open-source solutions developed and maintained within Europe. It highlights projects that promote transparency, reduce reliance on non-European tech ecosystems, and align with Europe’s strong commitment to privacy and data protection. The goal is to support digital autonomy in Europe while uplifting the local developers and communities who build trustworthy, user-centric software.
De-Proton your life
If you've ever heard of de-Googling your life, you're probably familiar with the Swiss alternative Proton. This service is very accessible and therefore very popular for people looking for more privacy. In addition to the fact that the company has recently taken some suspicious actions according to some privacy lawyers, I see another problem: you are AGAIN transferring all your data to a single company. I am not against Proton, but there is always a RISK when you completely entrust your data to one company. With this list I try to distribute your data as much as possible across services that also respect your privacy, are user friendly and are of course of european origin.

One of the best E2EE Cloud Storage Service with open-sourced clients.
Fast. Just files, no bloat.
Also, the prices are hard to beat. Probably gonna migrate everything from my former cloud service after my testing period.
This is good, but more promising than great. Large files, over 500mb, often fail to upload and/or download. I don't see this issue on other services, I've tried quite a few. I assume they'll sort it out in time. And I'll add a star. Generally this is good, not great, yet.
It might not be the most feature-rich cloud service, but it does it's job well enough. The privacy is a great selling point, and the price is unbeatable!
I really love the modern and minimalist UI, which makes navigation intuitive and clutter-free, along with its strong privacy-focused features like end-to-end encryption. It's an excellent alternative to Google Drive or OneDrive, especially if you're not tied to specific features of those tools, such as integrated collaboration in Docs or Sheets.
I like the fact that it is a small company, but I feel it has some work to do in the UX department on web app and Adroid app. Haven't tried others.
It's open source, decent and real E2EE, fair price, but the Android's app is a real crap. It needs an overhaul. I think UI/UX on the webapp should improve too.
