Said about BlackHole Audio Loopback Driver as an alternative
Blackhole is essentially a souped up and modernized macOS version of Virtual Audio Cable, available freely as an open-source app.
Blackhole takes off where Soundflower left off and supports modern macOS. Development is live and active.
easiest and free solution. In mac os settings, set imput and output to Blackhole (virtual device) and use any program like Audacity to rec the audio!

Free, unobtrusive (no UI: not even a menu bar icon), and actively maintained. A worthy successor to SoundFlower(Bed).
I've been working to find a modern open source equivalent to SoundFlower. I can verify that Blackhole accomplishes much of the same functionality. There was a sub-app for SoundFlower called SoundFlower Bed. That was the piece that really lowered the bar on ease of entry. Would love to see the same developed for Blackhole.
