The only archiver for Mac that do what archivers for Windows usually do. Double-click an archive file to open it, not to extract it.
I'm afraid there's no alternative to BetterZip that does this excellent job. There is iZip, its free version is a nagware and it's inferior to BetterZip. If you want an archiver that does what built-in Archive Utility does, there are The Unarchiver, Keka (much better than the former and it's FOSS) and Archiver ($20).
Tip: Before you extract an archive file with BetterZip, I recommend you to open the preferences pane, go to Presets tab, select 'Extract & Trash' on the left side, to the right side at 'Move archive to:', change 'Trash' to 'Don't Move'. Trashing the archive file after extracting is something that you probably don't want.

The preview and an option to extract only what you need from archive contents is a must-feature, which BZ delivers unlike many others.
The only issue I ever had with BZ is that when BZ cannot open a file or there is any issue with it BZ does not give you any feedback.

Since long the first Archiver I've found which really is up2date and has all features I was used from WinRar, Powerarchiver, 7Zip. (Windows applications)
