It handles dozens of formats (included RAR5), it got also a stable x64 version, and the compression time (or rate) improves with every release. I love it!
This was my Windows reaction, 5 stars. Now as a noob Linux Mint user I say that I'd really LOVE to see a GUI version for my new platform. :-/
To be clear, it can decompress RAR files, but not create them.

No recovery/parity. There needs to be improvements for long term archiving.
It's free and it's fast. What else do you need?
I'm a fairly new Windows user here. It might sound weird, but I absolutely love using 7-Zip, even with the knowledge that Windows has compression baked.
7-zip is a no frills application that is very light on system resources. The 7z format has a very high compression ratio, so there's no need to purchase a proprietary app like WinRAR. Oh, and on top of that, 7-zip uses unRAR to read RAR files.
I mean, it's open source, what else is there to it. I've been using 7-zip for years and it's never done me wrong.
Just one wish list item for me... please support dark mode. :-)
The only thing missing is a dark theme.
Simple and functional. There's no extra functionality and old weird interface like WinRar has( it's just weird, but neat :) ). Just puck/unpack. But the only annoying thing is a lack of shortcuts, like Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V especially.
Robust and lighweight
