Alternatives to BackBlaze for all platforms with any license

  • Duplicati

Duplicati is a backup client that securely stores encrypted, incremental, compressed backups on local storage, cloud storage services and remote file servers. The Duplicati project was inspired by Duplicity and had similar functionality until 2008. In that year the storage model was redesigned completely and the program was rebuilt from scratch. This manual describes Duplicati 2, the version based on the new storage model.

    • Duplicati is software that monitors changes in your files and creates backups to whatever destination you choose. It is not a service that provides storage, like Backblaze. But it does offer strong encryption, is free and open source. If it's storage online you want to buy for backup, try Backblaze with the encryption option on or go for Spideroak. • Spideroak One Backup

SpiderOak provides an easy, secure and consolidated online backup, storage, access, sharing & sync tool for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux (Ubuntu, Debian & Fedora). SpiderOak offers a different approach to online backup, synchronization, and sharing.

    • SpiderOak appears to be the most secure commercially available alternative to Backblaze. The only downside is that its rigorous "zero-knowledge" policy can place a more noticeable processing burden on low-end computers. It's also somewhat less intuitive to set up. robcollinsAug 2019 Disagree   Agree
    • Spideroak offers a "zero-knowledge" policy by default (they can't look at your files even if they wanted to) - which is great. Backblaze has this only as an option. Spideroak works on Linux, Backblaze has no Linux client. Backblaze is cheaper, but is for backups exclusively whereas with Spideroak you can also sync files between computers. It incrementally backs up, letting you restore from any particular backup. It schedules regular backups, and integrates well into your GNOME desktop.

Sync makes it easy to store, share and access your files from everywhere - your privacy guaranteed. Get 5GB free or 500GB Pro account for $49/yr.

    • Sync is a brilliant alternative to Dropbox rather than Backblaze. It does everything Dropbox does for Syncing but with the added privacy and security of end-to-end encryption. However, it for syncing, and not really for backups. For backups try Backblaze with encryption on, Spideroak or iDrive (both have end-to-end crypto by default).
