Double Commander 1.2 brings support for high-DPI, cloud providers, JPEG XL, GTK 3 and more

Double Commander 1.2 has been released as the latest version of this open source file manager with two panels side by side, inspired by Total Commander. This release advances cross-platform usability by adding GTK 3 support and improved high-DPI compatibility across Cocoa, Qt6, and Wayland environments. For users on macOS, this version delivers iCloud Drive access, broader support for popular cloud services including Dropbox, OneDrive, Box, and Amazon S3, Finder tag integration, smart folder browsing, APFS file cloning, file sharing, and a modernized interface.

Following the UI and macOS improvements, file management functions have been enhanced with a new GIF-viewer engine and JPEG XL image format support through the libjxl library. The update also provides a YAML syntax highlighter to aid in editing configuration files, and debuts a new dialog for calculating checksums.

These workflow upgrades are complemented by hashing improvements: Double Commander can now calculate and verify XXH128 hashes, and create checksum files for each directory. Performance enhancements include faster tarball handling, BLAKE3 optimizations with NEON on ARM64, accelerated SHA256 using ARM64CE on ARM64, and improved SHA3 and SHA512 with AVX2 on x86_64 processors.

While expanding compatibility, the release adds support for Brotli-compressed BR and TAR.BR archives, a 7-Zip plugin for Linux, and new options such as multi-rename in file extensions, in-place file navigation during rename, and additional plugin API functions.
