Comment summary: OneDrive receives mixed reviews. Positively, users appreciate the seamless syncing across devices, good storage options, and competitive pricing. OneDrive is praised for not using stored data to train AI, respecting user privacy, and being reliable for business uses due to its integration capabilities. Criticisms include poor cross-platform functionality, frequent syncing issues, an unintuitive user interface, and limitations on file sharing and storage features. There are also complaints about unexpected file management changes and persistent bugs, especially on OS other than Windows.

In terms of cost and usability, I think OneDrive is the best product out there. I've tried so many cloud providers like Amazon, Google, Dropbox, Box etc etc and I think that OneDrive is the most trustworthy platform and great if you're concerned of your data suddenly being deleted because some automated scan suspects something "illegal" on your account (for example, Google has a habit of suspecting pirated content exists and disabling your entire account over it)

With all that said, it's not perfect. The Android app tends to ignore your requests to ONLY upload photos (it uploads screenshots and various other junk you don't want in your Camera Roll) and the UserVoice feature suggestions are basically ignored. There's no file tree directory view and you can't unzip within the browser. These aren't features that absolutely destroy your use of the service - but they are basic essentials!

When compared to alternatives such as Google Drive and Dropbox, OneDrive is terrible. Issues I have include files not syncing, opening files as read-only after clicking to open an editable copy, and finding newer versions of a synced file on the server.

The best thing about OneDrive other than lots of people using it already is that it can sync SharePoint sites, making it good for businesses in this one regard.

Confirmed via a WA Attorney General request (on public record) that Microsoft does not utilize your stored data to train AI systems. I also have heard from colleagues that they also tend to respect privacy more than other solutions (so long as your uploaded files are legal under US law and/or are not actively being shared publicly online). They are also better priced compared to their competitors with similar feature sets.

Syncs Desktop and Documents folders on Windows without user's consent making some apps which store temporary data in Documents folder non-functional. Then alarms that remaining free storage space is dwindling, thus user needs to buy subscription.

The app interface from which sync settings could be tweaked disappeared from the system completely.

Abhorrent service. 1/10, won't recommend.

Use it all the time to keep track of my files for work and personal. No matter the device, I can almost instantly share my files. Amazing storage at a cheap price!

Just random. Folders and files synced to OneDrive randomly appear/disappear in the interfaces: you can have a file in the web app, that does not appear neither on your mobile nor on your OneDrive folder on your PC. And no way to refresh, resync, re-anything. It is absolutely unusable.

What is Microsoft OneDrive?

Microsoft OneDrive is a file hosting service that allows users to store, synchronize, and share files. It also serves as the storage backend for Microsoft 365/Office. Users get 5 GB of free storage, with options to purchase more. The OneDrive client application, included with Microsoft Windows and available for macOS, Android, iOS, and Xbox, enables file synchronization and cloud backup. Microsoft 365 applications integrate directly with OneDrive, which also allows online editing of Microsoft Office documents. OneDrive supports collaboration through Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. OneDrive for Business offers additional tools for data protection. OneDrive also provides secure backup and sharing options for files, photos, apps, and settings, and enables automatic backups of photos, videos, and Xbox game captures. The mobile app allows document scanning for cloud protection, and the platform stores photo and video collections.
