Zorin OS 18 launches with new desktop, web apps tool, and improved Windows compatibility

As Windows 10 has finally reached the end of life today (with one additional year of free security updates for users in the EU), Zorin OS has taken the occasion to officially release its anticipated version 18 as a modern alternative for users seeking a compatible and up-to-date operating system. It introduces a redesigned desktop with a rounded theme, softer colors, tinted sidebars, and a floating panel that refreshes the overall look and feel.

Core apps like Files, Settings, Calendar, Camera, and Evolution have been updated with simpler layouts and consistent sidebars. The Activities button is replaced by a reactive workspace indicator, and a new window tiling manager enables quick app arrangement with predefined and custom layouts, smart suggestions, and shortcut options. The release also adds a Web Apps tool to turn any website into a desktop application with support for Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge, Microsoft OneDrive integration for Microsoft 365 users, and an installer that recognizes over 170 Windows apps to suggest Linux or web-based alternatives 🐧.

Zorin OS 18 Pro expands its app collection with new tools like Deskflow for sharing a mouse and keyboard across devices, Warp for secure file transfers, Valot for time tracking, and EasyEffects for professional audio control. The Education edition adds Gradebook for tracking grades, Spedread for speed reading, and TurboWarp, a Scratch-based coding app for kids. Other upgrades include improved performance, expanded Windows app support via WINE 10, better audio through PipeWire, remote desktop access, and long-term support until June 2029.
