Windows 11 2023 update launches with changes to Teams integration and app management
Microsoft has launched the Windows 11 2023 Update (23H2), initially intended as a significant upgrade, with several features already incorporated in the preceding update from September. These features include Microsoft Copilot (Windows & 365), AI-driven enhancements to Microsoft Paint, Snipping Tool, and Microsoft Photos, RGB lighting support, and an updated File Explorer.
The key alteration in this new Windows 11 2023 Update is the replacement of the Microsoft Teams integration, Chat, with a free version of Microsoft Teams pinned to the taskbar. The previous Teams integration was deeply integrated into the OS and automatically activated in the taskbar, making it challenging to remove. It was initially confusing and limited for consumers, making it unsuitable for business-focused Teams users.
The 2023 Update also introduces changes in app management, with Windows 11 system components now labeled as "system" and grouped separately in settings. This section lists built-in apps like the Microsoft Store, Xbox Game Bar, Phone Link, and Microsoft Tips apps, hinting at Microsoft's potential plan to enable users to remove these system components.
