Wow, wow, wow – I use Tidy every single day now, and it has become one of those apps I really wouldn’t want to be without on my Mac.

The range of features has become impressive and continues to grow. What I particularly love, though, is how quietly and resource-efficiently Tidy sits in the menu bar and simply does what it is supposed to do in the background.

One thing that is especially important to me is how carefully Tidy handles my files: files aren’t simply deleted permanently, and actions can be reversed using the undo feature. With an app that I trust to organize my files, that gives me a real sense of confidence and security.

On top of that, the developer is someone I’ve come to know as exceptionally dedicated, friendly and genuinely close to his users. He responds to feedback and suggestions quickly, personally and always politely – and useful ideas find their way into one of the next versions surprisingly often.

Tidy is evolving at an impressive pace right now without becoming unnecessarily complicated.

What more could you ask for? I’m genuinely impressed and, based on my own daily experience with Tidy, I’m very happy to recommend it.

Sven, thank you. You wrote the first review Tidy ever had, back when it didn't speak German, and that was the reason it does now.

For anyone reading this later: the "actions can be reversed" part is not a feature I added, it's the whole point. Tidy never deletes anything, ever. Everything goes to the Trash and a run undoes in one click.

What is Tidy for Mac?

Tidy is a Mac menu bar app that reads what's written inside your files and uses it.

Find: press ⌥Space and search inside images and scanned PDFs — where Spotlight finds nothing — with the text read on your Mac.

Name: "download (3).pdf" becomes "invoice-march.pdf". It reads images and scanned PDFs through the OCR built into macOS, and Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Pages, Numbers, RTF, HTML and LibreOffice files, plus saved emails, calendar invitations, contacts, EPUB books and screen recordings. Rename from the panel, or right-click files in the Finder.

Organize: Downloads and the Desktop tidy themselves with rules that can match what a file says inside or where it came from. It learns your habits and proposes the rule; it never acts alone. Scan paper with your iPhone camera and it lands already named.

New in 2.9 — a safety net for AI agents: before you let Claude, Cowork or Codex work in a folder, protect it (or right-click it in the Finder). Tidy keeps an instant copy that takes no space, tells you in plain words what was moved, renamed and deleted, and brings it all back in one click.

No account, no server, no telemetry. It never deletes anything: everything goes to the Trash, there's a dry-run mode, and any run undoes in one click. $9 once, macOS 14 and later, in English, Spanish, German, French and Portuguese.
