What is Subtitle Editor?
Subtitle Editor is a GTK+3 tool to edit subtitles for GNU/Linux/*BSD.
It can be used for new subtitles or as a tool to transform, edit, correct and refine existing subtitle. This program also shows sound waves, which makes it easier to synchronize subtitles to voices.
Subtitle Editor is free software released under the GNU General Public License (GPL3).

Said about Subtitle Editor as an alternative
Maybe not as complete, but it has the same basic functions, like editing, subtitle sync (move subtitles), support for video player and waveform, translation, framerate switch, grammar tools, etc. For me, Subtitle Editor works much better on Linux than SubtitleEdit and it's better than Gaupol.
