Used to connect to a virtualbox gnome wayland vm. One of the best, looks crisp, low latency, saves passwords, warns for unsecured connections. Sadly I needed to switch back and forth from medium to auto quality at the start of the session; screen stays black if starting a session on auto (v6.20.529).
They recently made the server paid (or at least the version that keeps your accounts in one place and you don't need to connect to the PCs through their local IP).
Was excellent before that.
They are changing their pricing tiers, removing the free Home subscription that offered remote access to 5 devices, and instead offering a Lite subscription, with access to 3 devices. https://help.realvnc.com/hc/en-us/articles/17445613281309-RealVNC-Connect-Home-Subscriptions-Important-Information#what-happens-if-i-don%E2%80%99t-migrate-my-team--0-5
Accounts that do not migrate their subscription before mid-June will initially be deactivated, and eventually deleted. This is a change that leaves a somewhat bitter taste. Might still be worth it for most light users.
Used it for years under a reasonably-priced Enterprise license (small SOHO with 5 machines). Now time to renew and prices are astronomical. Wrote to them several times. No response. Looking for an alternate now (2021)
It worked, right away, unlike TightVNC, to give me GUI access to my Raspberry Pi.
Free version does not offer encryption. Avoid this.

Seems it does now, see reply to my comment.
https://manage.realvnc.com/pricing shows that the free home version does offer encyrption
"128-bit session encryption"
That must be new? Or I wasn't paying much attention before. Thanks.
