A quick tip: If you like to test and use OpenProject instantly, install it for free as a ready-to-use virtual machine image via Univention's App Catalog. This image contains the app itself and a UCS runtime environment. Apart from being quickly installed and free, you also get regular updates for the whole stack.
Absolute beast in features when it comes to free project management. Even when it comes to gantts. Of course users are pushed towards paid editions, but the pricing only seems fair and devs got to eat. It is not fully mature project yet, but there are no critical bugs either.
[Chrome v 64.0.3282.140] When modifying some info, OpenProject sometimes saves the entries automatically (green "saved" box at the top), sometime it gives a "Save" button - both of them are OK to me. But sometimes neither of them, and of course in that case it won't save the newly entered info. Very annoying! I was unable to re-arrange the tasks list as I wish! I looked into the User's Guide, read some forum entries, and seems to me there is NO possibility to move tasks up-and-down on the list. Somebody suggested to use the Backlogs view. I tried to use that, but I wasn't satisfied with that feature.
I have used the Community Edition and found it to be very powerful. We had decided to not implement it in the company for a very small, but very important reason: the tasks are not built by duration (days or hours). You have a set start and end date. That is it. If my projects are based on duration and not dates, I will also have to "convert" them. Definitely not optimal. If there was an option to input duration and get the end dates, this would be gold for us. Also, if the Community had the barebones for the Kanban board this would have been a 4 star.
Truly open source. Slick features. Active project.
Unfortunately, the free version of OpenProject does not natively support Windows operating systems currently.
