Ease of use! Simple UI
Fake. It is fake-open. You can download the code, the cocker containers or whatever...in ANY CASE you will need to share data with them. Right after setting up on a local machine it is required your data to be exfiltrated to the United States.
This is fake-FOSS.
Technically, just because software is FOSS doesn't mean it is privacy-friendly (although they do often go together).
In this case, however, I don't see what data is shared with them. When self-hosting, internet access is not required. The email address given for user setup doesn't have to be a real email address. If I missed something, please share.

I might give it another try but the nocodb docker container that i tried back then did not accept fak email adresses, had "signup for newsletter" selected by default, has reddit and facebook outbound links like it is 2010 but the biggest button I could see was "sponsor us".
I am sure that is not software I want.

It is a viable alternative to Airtable that is free when self-hosted.
Just getting started with NocoDB, but so far it's great! Easy to install if familiar with Docker. They give Docker Compose examples for several database types.
I find the interface much easier than something like DBeaver, especially when it comes to linking columns. The options for viewing a table (grid, form, Kanban, etc.) are awesome.
Great software, but sometimes buggy. Lot's of good functionnalities, working Swagger API for automation.
Just jargon-laden and utterly confusing for newbies. One of the worst examples of indecipherable "getting started" material I've ever encountered.
