    LibreOffice is free and open source and also brings in free document types which are not restricted by Microsoft.

    Libreoffice lacks in some point of support Microsoft only document styles but you can create fully functional documents shareable with any Microsoft office Suit.

    OpenOffice was a great alternative when it was in really active development. But for more than a decade it stands on the same place without meaningful movement and it is very unfortunate. Rather use LibreOffice, which stands on the great legacy of OpenOffice but is in active development.

    I like Cryptpad as an alternative to M365, where it allows you to self-host your own office suite, which looks like an instance of OnlyOffice hosted in the "cloud" while respecting E2EE and is open source. If you'd rather use the cloud than self-host you can use a public instance or a paid plan for hosting and storage.

    Calligra Suite's interface kinda resembles iWork (is it still called that?), which would come as a shock to those coming from Office. Unfortunately, I didn't have a stable experience using it on my device running Zorin OS. It also lacks collaborative features.
