Deepdwn is a markdown editing suite, designed to organize and edit collections of markdown files.
Your files are stored in portable, standard markdown format on your machine.
Deepdwn has no cloud storage, but you can easily put your files in a directory shared with other systems via Syncthing/Dropbox/OneDrive/Box.
Files are organized by using standard yaml at the beginning of your markdown documents, letting you add document titles, categories and tags that live with your markdown documents.
As a markdown editor, Deepdwn has a number of standard and non-standard features, including:
- Rendering of flow charts, sequence diagrams, sheetmusic, and guitar tabs
- Image drag and drop, direct image pasting from clipboard
- Markdown preview including synced checkbox lists and diagrams
- A synchronized outline view for easier document navigation
- Typewriter and distraction free modes, removing UI and centering your text on the screen for improved focus, hopefully.
- (optional) Vlambeer-inspired powermode. Make writing streaks more exciting
Comments and Reviews
A markdown editor with a nice preview mode and the possibility to export to PDF and, of course, to save as Markdown. You can put a YAML header to your file, in which you can set tags and a category. This might make finding your files easier.
Unfortunately, I can’t find a documentation, but an example can be loaded into the editor, which shows you how to create a header and lists the markdown syntax.
There are sidebars on the left, which show you the categories and tags, and you can set favourite folders, for example the folder for your markdown files or the folders according to your categories. This makes it easy to find documents. Another sidebar shows the outline of your document (the headings). This allows you to jump to specific passages or chapters.
I find it a big disadvantage that there is no way to set the font and font size. At most, you can zoom the view as a whole, but then the columns may become too wide and the whole layout may look ugly. This should be improved.
All in all, for the fair price of eight dollars (plus VAT) you get a usable application with a few small imperfections. The software will hopefully be constantly improved and developed further.
Deepdwn is constantly being further developed and improved. I like it a lot now.
In version 0.39.0 form March 2023, the font and font size can be set. And I like the full-screen mode and the distraction free mode.
The price for a license is $ 8.00 USD, which seems fair to me.
$11.99 USD (May 2021)
The font size is too small for me, and I can’t find a way to change the size. Apart from that, nice Markdown editor.
