KennethWilhelmssonnomacs is so far the best contender to irfanview. You can go through images and delete or keep. Scale and cut. Having some trouble with paste, but I hope that is a setting. Or an yet undiscovered feature.

No bloated user interface.

Bundleware
The first installer available on the website, presented by the author, "ImageGlass Spider", is bundleware. From the privacy policy: "Also, the software shares available resources with the Spider's customers, to pass traffic through your device."The author is aware of the problem and indecisive on what action to take. Since less experienced users would fall for the "Spider" edition, be careful when downloading this software.

HoneyView vs IrfanView opinions
Allows lots of settings for mouse buttons and wheel allowing me to zoom in and out with the click of a mouse button and scroll my images up/down at a sensible speed with my mouse wheel. Absolutely brilliant program. Lightweight and stands head and shoulders above Microsoft Photos (Windows 10). Has now taken over from IrfanView.
Honey view bring sharpness & clarity to bigger pics that Irfan struggles to do. Tested: bmp; jpg; png.

qView is a Qt-based image viewer designed to be practical and minimal, available for Windows, macOS, and Linux
qView vs IrfanView opinions
IrfanView is not a simple viewer. Take all of what qView does away from IrfanView and you still have a complete program. qView appears to be a good program just not an alternative to IrfanView.
Only processes single images, no way to look at folders or organize.
